Strategies:

1. Rather than work on the protocolverse as a whole, work on an instance. An instance is the unit of community. It is what crystallizes learnings.

2. Invent a values-included version of the fediverse, so that the tech and community are united. Make an offshoot of Activity Pub that is useless to nazis.

3. Study happiness in the fediverse so we can do more of what's working.

Single-purpose forum sites are a vestige of the sprawl of the early web.

This certificate is for one that I have been participating in lightly since 2016.

@jpf@mastodon.social I love emoji sentences.

I made that long one that I posted by typing a sentence into chat GPT and asking it to translate into emoji. It's weird how it is almost vaguely sort of kind of understandable.

@luka@sonomu.club @nf3xn@mastodon.social I need to raise my game. I have learned in this thread how much I don't know.

@luka@sonomu.club @nf3xn@mastodon.social I'm not sure about that. If so, I think it probably just happened and timnit hasn't had time to make changes. The place seemed pretty much abandoned when I was poking around.

@tacertain@infosec.exchange Hi Andrew, you haven't followed the conversation. I don't know what you imagined, just that it is imaginary. You are in a thread-mob. Can I ask you a question? What is the first post in the thread from your perspective? Which is the one that started it all?

@fifilamoura@eldritch.cafe Do you mean me, Fifi? Can you be more specific about something bigoted I have said?

@ErickaSimone@mastodon.social Well, I put in a fair amount of sweat on anti-racism today, actually.

Gathering ideas from you is part of that!

@ErickaSimone@mastodon.social There's a big flurry of conversation around racism in the fediverse in the past couple days. I've been reading back through threads and finding that a lot of the conflict I'm is misunderstanding and miscommunication.

@jdp23@blahaj.zone That poster is on an instance with no block list and no moderation.

The design principle of the fediverse is to use filters to craft custom environments. Anybody can post anything somewhere.

@hollie@social.coop The post by @J12t@social.coop was not asking for proof, it was asking for data. The poster is a long standing contributor to the fediverse with an interest in making it better. Also, the tone of his post was neutral and polite.

Your reading is a misreading.

@ErickaSimone@mastodon.social Ok, so what are your thoughts? I get the goal. How are you visualizing that?

@ErickaSimone@mastodon.social But what does that mean? Instances and block lists are how policies are implemented.

Regarding this:
> don't think you can 'save' someone, make their experience on fedi nice or give unsolicited advice if they don't ask for it. Kim Crayton has made it perfectly clear why she is on fediverse and it's clear they know what they are doing.

That's ultimately correct. This person owns their own bad experience and has a trivial way to fix it that nobody else can do for them.

@luka@sonomu.club @nf3xn@mastodon.social Here's a thing I didn't know how to handle. I was reading the thread as hosted on dair-community.social rather than my home instance. I saw a comment that was clearly abusive (and unforgettably gruesome). Would I report that to the admin of dair-community.social or to the instance of the commenter? Or both?

@lance@mastodon.social You're right. It's such a peculiar interaction, but it's also pretty ordinary. I'll take your advice.

@JoscelynTransient@chaosfem.tw what led you to make such a minor correction in such harsh language?

@mynameistillian@plush.city Why would you frame such a banal point in the form of a personal attack?
