Professor of economics. Macroeconomics, energy, time series, Linux, programming, sports, Kansas, Emacs, complaining, shitposting. Christian, but not the post-Jesus variant.
Not a professional account. I often follow at random. If I unfollow, don't take offense. If I block, there was a reason.
With 100% certainty, you can predict that corporate privacy promises fail due to "bugs"
Why don't I use Bluesky? Because it's loaded with the same kind of low-effort, self-promotional stuff that caused me to leave Twitter. For instance, this. Now, maybe there's something there, but it's just an old man shouting at the clouds in this form.
Once again, I'll start worrying about AI taking all the jobs when Medicare and full retirement age for Social Security are 40, and full-time employment is 12 hours a week.
Until then, get back to work, and be thankful you can use AI to do some of the crap you don't want to do.
Send me an overly verbose AI-written email one more time

Panera Bread releases first-ever value menu with ‘Mix & Match’ deals
"Each of the 10 items on the “Mix & Match” menu is priced at $4.99, and diners have to buy at least two items."
Value. You Keep Using That Word. I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means.
This is about the millionth story on LinkedIn's awful privacy practices. That's why I can only shake my head that Mozilla hires CEOs that only have a presence on LinkedIn. You have to create a LinkedIn account and be logged in to view information about the Mozilla CEO. It's a mystery why Mozilla still exists.

I don’t know what happened to the stock market today but I like it
Gemma 4 is very impressive. I tested it on my home computer that has no GPU, only an i5 CPU, and 64 GB of RAM.
Running was simple:
ollama run --model gemma4 --think=false
It's not instant, but it's very fast, and it gives solid answers. I tried running LLMs on my CPU in 2024 and had slow, unusable garbage. Hopeful that local is the future.
Totally agree as long as > 1 cent is a big purchase
