I'm so honored to be a keynote speaker at EuroPython 2026. 💞
My talk is about seeing through the noise — the intersection of people, data, patterns, and intentional AI. In a moment when AI is everywhere and loud, let's slow down and look beneath the surface.
I can't wait to bring the @pyOpenSci@fosstodon.org lens — and everything our community has taught me — to this stage. I hope to see you there!
Monday at #UNOpenSourceWeek I co-facilitated a session on AI tools in #opensource. The conversations were hard to stop at the end!
The themes are similar across audiences: AI shifts workload rather than reducing it. and Trust is eroding. BUT guardrails and tools such as https://AGENTS.md, CodeRabbit, and repo scaffolding tools are emerging.
The number that stuck for me was real cost: a $200/month subscription == ~$15k/month in actual costs (maybe more). A blog coming soon.
Made it to Long Beach just in time for the start of #pyconus !! I can't wait to see all of my friends and colleagues!! This is always my favorite meeting.
Tomorrow @pyOpenSci@fosstodon.org will host its first #openspace at 3pm in room 202A! Join us to talk about #genAI #aitools and the impact they are having on #opensource . We have some research lined up and want to problem-solve with the community together. I hope to see you all there!! #python
I'm honored to be named a @ThePSF@fosstodon.org fellow🐍
This reflects work I started in 2018 at @pyOpenSci@fosstodon.org —creating inclusive pathways for scientists to spend less time fighting with their code and more time solving the challenges that matter.
None of this happens alone. To everyone who's participated in our peer review process, contributed to our guidebooks, supported our beginner-friendly sprints, or helped welcome new community members—thank you. #python #opensource #science
RE: @sovtechfund@mastodon.social
I am honored to be representing @sovtechfund@mastodon.social again this year at #unopensource week.
When teaching ecologists to code, I wrote pages of scripts to wrangle messy data.
Then I packaged them.
Result? 40+ researchers went from pages of code to single lines. More time for science, less for debugging.
That's the power of #OpenSource packaging.
Teaching Python packaging Nov 6 so more scientists can build reusable tools.
What script do you wish was already a package?

Who else is heading to @pycon@fosstodon.org this year!! I can't wait for the maintainer summit and for our @pyOpenSci@fosstodon.org beginner-friendly sprints!! I hope to see you all there!!!
When I learned to code it wasn’t pretty. I wrote (messy) MATLAB scripts that somehow worked (on my computer only😅) and took hours to run. I had no training, no roadmap — just #science curiosity & a friend who helped me get started.
I founded @pyOpenSci@fosstodon.org to support researchers like me create #openscience. I get to teach workshops on all things #python #opensource so that others don't have to learn the hard way. 💛
Community makes the impossible feel doable. We go further when we learn together.
We have received an uptick in packages in the recent months and need editors to support our open peer review process. considering volunteering to support scientific #opensource
Join us at the maintainers summit saturday May 16 for an incredible line up of speakers!!
PSA: Document your #OpenSource infrastructure!
I'm working with friends to rebuild the all-contributors bot maintainer team. We're discovering the hard way that accounts/workflows aren't documented.
If you're maintaining a project:
✅ Create DEVELOPMENT.md from day one
✅ Document all accounts & access
✅ Use shared accounts when possible
Future maintainers (or future you) will be grateful!
What undocumented gotcha have you hit in a project?
