Replying to

@broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca A couple of months ago, I had a problem with my eye, went to see some specialists. Only *one* of the 4 doctors I saw during that time noticed I was wearing a mask, and asked if I'd like him to do so as well. When I said yes, he also told the nurse to put one on. (This is in Ireland.)

I was a bit bored (bsky being down), so I ran my standard "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/null bs=1m" test on the 3 Mac Minis I have here. Results:

m4: 73,380,017,550 bytes/sec
m2: 54,471,627,157 bytes/sec
i7: 38,393,313,168 bytes/sec

Interesting progression there. Other machines:
2019 MacPro (3.2GHz Xeon W): 27,851,995,360 bytes/sec
E5-2650L v2 @ 1.70GHz: 16,338,580,966 bytes/sec
CPU E5-2650L v4 @ 1.70GHz: 14,048,347,284 bytes/sec

I really like #Tailscale, but I keep running into issues on my mac with it. First, it hates that some of my hostnames resolve to 192.168.0.0/16, and new right now... it's removed my router's IP address from the list of DNS hosts. Which means my *.internal names don't resolve.

Cached US Kindle giveaway: 10 copies of Shadow of a Dead God (Mennik Thorn Book 1) by @patricksamphire@wandering.shop, which TO THE AMAZEMENT OF ALL, I not only have but have read! (Just recently.) I enjoyed it quite a bit; it was very reminiscent of early Taltos and Dresden books, which is a good thing. I have at least one of the sequels, so I should get around to that at some point.

As always, feel free to claim one, tell other people about the giveaway, or tell a fascist to fuck off, or any/all of those!

Cached US Kindle giveaway: 10 copies of A Drifting Sun (Exiles Trilogy Book 1) by Ashley Capes, which I now have, but haven't read, so if you read it please let me know what you think.

It was on sale and I have to say, the description did sound interesting, and it had a 4.4 rating on amazon stars! See how much those reviews matter?

Please claim one if it sounds interesting. You can also tell someone else about the giveaway!

Replying to

@cstross@wandering.shop My watch updated itself last week or the week before -- that was the most recent cause of my reminders disappearing. reminders.icloud.com at least had most of them, so... I signed out of iCloud on my phone. Then I spent about an hour re-adding all of my credit cards to Wallet. Except for the Bank of Ireland ones, since those require me to speak to a person, and they're out until Tuesday.

Yet Another #Siri "eccentricity": my #HomePod told me a joke last night, about a photon checking into a hotel. But it pronounced the word "phu-tawn." As in pho, the Vietnamese food.
