"What is truth, man? You heard the weirdo.”
~ Zaphod Beeblebrox, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (radio play, season 2, episode 6, written by Douglas Adams)

I’m deeply saddened that Zaphod is so well embodied by the 45th/47th President of the USA, but there's no questioning Douglas Adams insight when it comes to “truth.”

I’d say I’m neurodivergent, but a doctor corrected me every time I said I was “weird” because there is no normal when it comes to neurology, so we’re all divergent.

New high end cocktail: The Reflecting Pool. 1- line your glass with a blue fruit roll up. Then you're going to need: 2 oz rum 4 oz juice that is kinda yellow (pineapple, mango, orange, lemonade, whatever you like) 1 oz blue curacao (you can adjust for color) Garnish with lime zest The yellow and blue liquids make a lovely shade of algae and the rum eventually melts the blue fruit roll up, which is, IMHO, the best part. Enjoy!

@kali @benroyce @mattdm @davoyager I didn't fuck up (in terms of registering and voting, I've fucked up in plenty of ways—just ask my wife). I have when I was younger, although the cost was pretty low, I think, and did learn my lesson because it was pretty obvious the cost would be higher if W won (or stole) the election. I've been a registered Democrat, active in local politics and primaries, have and voted Democratic since 1998 when Newt Gingrich was on the march—even when I've had to hold my nose to do it.

@benroyce @mattdm @davoyager #2, and it's the only reason I'm a registered Democrat: depending on the candidates, I might "throw away" my vote for a bona fide socialist or as close as I can find to one. Note: I did not do that last year and Harris and our Democratic Senator who was up would've won my state even if a pretty sizeable bunch of us had.

@IanDSmith@mastodonapp.uk If no one trusted anonymous sources, Watergate would've blown over. I do wish news sources had the same editorial standards as the Post back then, only printing from Deep Throat things that were confirmed by other anonymous sources. I agree 100% about news sources citing other news sources—I may or may not finish the piece I'm reading, but I'll always at least try to find the original reporting. And my biggest beef isn't in here: learn how to spot a press release being reported as news.

@knowprose@mastodon.social @broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca I totally agree he never should have unholstered, and I certainly don't want to go down a rabbit hole about any particular shot, but I do think which shot was the kill shot and what he did to make that shot are relevant. More relevant than switching hands on his cell phone camera to unholster in an alleged act of self defense? Unholstering at all? Getting in front of her car like that? No. But relevant nonetheless. We have to look at the whole picture and I sincerely hope investigators somewhere are and are working on how to let a judge and jury look at that picture, too.

@paninid The ultimate irony would be if this post was written by AI. And that's the problem with the metaphor: the average schmoe knows instantly the difference between café food and pizza or Thai or sushi. They don't have to make any effort to pause and think about it. The best metaphor I can think of is fine art. People may not be able to distinguish the difference between Van Gogh and a knockoff of his work, but many of us are naturally going to be attracted to the art that has some heart and soul put into it, no matter how intangible that quality is. Yes, there are still going to be decision-makers who have contempt for their customers and believe they won't notice the difference, but they will largely fail. Not completely, but humanity, heart, and soul will win out.

@knowprose@mastodon.social @broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca I've never shot a triple burst, never gone through that training, but the third shot did not look "reflexive" given how he paused between the 2nd and 3rd, and had to readjust his arm position to get around the side mirror and reach into her window. Honest question: is the reflex that complex?

This says a lot about Philly: no one expects *both* of those teams to get far enough into their respective playoffs for this to be a problem, and oh, hell no, Bruce, we're watching the Flyers and the Sixers.

@FluentInFinance@mastodon.social I just thought of something (out of the blue, 12 hours since I read this): does this mean different people in the same line might be paying a different price for the same item? I know that's how it is on airplanes, and I guess the technology would work provided the system is taking note of what the price tag said when customer x picked up the item and is updating the cash register for each customer. But what happens if you're not identifiable by their system? (No phone, no frequent shoppers' program, not visually unique enough?)

I haven't watched a #GordonRamsey show in a long time because, well, frankly he's kind of a dick and I'm just not into the asshole artiste thing. So I'm not even sure why I tuned in to #NextLevelChef season 5, but I'm glad I did. Kinder, gentler Gordon is fun to watch.

Oh, I take that back, there is one tool that uses something akin to LLMing which is very useful... for creating a temp track for ADR instead which is marginally better than having the assistant editor read it deadpan or having the actor read it out of context on their phone.

Got a message looking for voice actors. OK, I can act with my voice, I'll check this out. Turns out they want someone who speaks “Chinese” to train AI. Even if I spoke whatever language they want (presumably one spoken primarily by Chinese people), training AI is not acting.
