has anyone written a guide for all the joy-bringing low-tech devices with which you could reduce your smartphone use? :]

i'm Very Sad that songkick is now owned by suno. i think i'm going to have to abandon it, but it's so hard to keep track of when artists are touring in my area. :(
(open to suggestions if anyone has some?)
i know it's not entirely possible, but is there any way to make a web page (as a subpath on an existing domain or a new subdomain) that is relatively hidden from crawlers, including even regular search engines? i don't currently plan to link to it, though of course i can't stop anyone from doing that if they come across it. is robots.txt still better than nothing?

i really liked the questions asked and the quandaries waded into and the safeguards suggested. i found it very empathetic and thoughtful. i really gravitated to and am grasping tightly to the concluding message of caring for each other and understanding our wider context and remaining critical of those who exploit workers to enrich themselves.

i really resonate with this! i've been stewing on this a bit. i've learned a lot (especially on mastodon) about the DIY spirit and tech sovereignty and owning your data and digital presence. i've appreciated learning about all of it, but i want my friends and family and most importantly anyone who isn't living and breathing this kind of technology to feel safe on the web, and be able to do all the fun and interesting things without basically having to become a sysadmin, or even necessarily a programmer.
better defaults, better regulations and protections, more effort to understand what technology and the web are like for a new user, average user, wide range of users. i want to be conscious not to set my own defaults (browsers, ad blockers, password managers, just tech/design familiarity or literacy) and become complacent about making sure we continue to make things better for everyone else.
i seem to run into this often with buttons that might get disabled, so i just slap an autocomplete="off" on those and it seems to fix it. but i don't always remember
hmm zotero api? social ecosystem exists/possible? hmm
