Subjam:
I sold a bunch of anti-AI stickers to my local record store yesterday in anticipation for Record Store Day today.
The owner was telling me about a recent marketing meeting with our city involving outside consultants. They were pushing every business owner in the room to use AI for everything.
At one point he got up and said, "If you mention AI one more time, I'm walking out."
He explained that he sells ART, and he is 100% against AI use in his business.
When I was 8 (1988) I was introduced to arcade games, and Double Dragon was the first one I played at a local pizza place.
20 years later I fulfilled a dream I'd had since and bought an original cabinet from an eBay auction, and fully restored it. New monitor & control panel, wood filler, paint and so much else! Labor of love.
Just yesterday I replaced the JAMMA connector to the PCB (lots of soldering!) and was able to play it again for the first time in a while.

"Months of rolling outages have pushed some Russians back to walkie-talkies and pagers, sparking anger nationwide and chipping away at Putin’s approval ratings."
Let's not think this cannot happen elsewhere in the near future. Be prepared.
LoRa (MeshCore / Meshtastic / Reticulum / etc.) are gaining a LOT of steam lately for completely off-grid, secure text communication. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LoRa

@nuintari I'd default to yes, but more specific context would help. In a hospital waiting room? On a noisy, busy street?
We live in a world where machines are making music.
Let's think about this for a minute.
In spite of real musicians and artists universally denouncing it, AI tech bros are passing off this regurgitation as equal to human self-expression.
This is not only a slap in the face to artists, but it's dangerous to the very way we *connect* with music.
For instance, is it healthy to form an emotional connection with an AI artist? Is the essence of art itself not diminished?
Vinyl records have had a resurgence in popularity in the past 10-15 years, but *cassettes* are the brand-new-nostalgia... probably in no small part due to "Stranger Things" and similar pop culture throwbacks?
CDs are slowly coming back around as well. Most independent record stores and artists still release new music on them.
Physical mediums for music overall are becoming more valuable for fans.. Are standalone MP3/music players next?
It seems that my current anonymizing VPN provider's IP space is being blocked by more and more websites and online services. I don't like how I'm being penalized for wanting this layer of privacy, because others have abused the IPs on networks I'm currently on.
Anybody using Mozilla's VPN service? If so, are you experiencing the same type of issue? I'm considering switching to them in the case their IP space is a bit more "untainted" than my current provider's.
My wife gifted me this soundtrack for "National Lampoon's Senior Trip" today 😁
I was a young, dumb teenager when it came out in 1995. My best friend and I watched it religiously and uploaded .WAVs of funny quotes to our BBS. We even dressed up as Daggs and Reggie for Halloween that year-not that anyone could tell 😎
I watched it the other night and told my wife I couldn't believe I never got the soundtrack. Great 90's alt/grunge/punk rock.
Today she hands me this, still in shrinkwrap ❤️❤️❤️
I've been fortunate enough in the past 1+ year to hold a schedule where I can practice my morning Tai-chi routine just about every day. Even after decades of relative inconsistency, being able to be this frequent gives me noticeably stronger benefits, mentally speaking. I have much better control over my thoughts, my moods.. my days.
I highly recommend mindfulness of *any* kind, for everyone. IMO the world would be much more peaceful if everyone practiced it more.

@evacide@hachyderm.io I think we're *almost* at the point where peoples' disillusions of what AI is, and what it *actually* is, are laid out for all to see.

@ShadowJonathan@tech.lgbt I hadn't heard this quote directly but came up with a similar one a while back.. something like, "Why is AI generating art and music while I'm still stuck doing the fucking dishes?"

I've been hearing some talk of our current dystopian cyberpunk nightmare timeline, and blame the "nerds" who built the machines.
Though I get the sentiment, let's get some things perfectly straight—
1) Real nerds are nice to others.
2) Real nerds share.
3) Real nerds are who gave us the early Internet.
The dot-com boom brought in Venture Capitalists who stole our work, hired "tech bros" and figured out how to use it all for their own selfish gain.
Loving the support Subjam is getting so far, thank you!!

@thomasbeagle@mastodon.nz Nerds do not rule the world.

Then, tech bros came in and stole our work to make a billion dollars off of.
We are not the same as them.

@beyondmachines1 What about DCs that do colocation for small businesses? Or are you just talking about AI data centers?
Had such an awesome time at LinuxFest Northwest!! There are only a few places I can say I feel truly among my own people, and this is one of them.
Already looking forward to next year, with motivation to register as a speaker.

@subnetspider This sounds eerily like my issue w/pfSense and failover WAN connections (on the same box). The failover normally takes over fine but does not fail back to primary once it comes back online, even after a period of time has elapsed. I always figured I hadn't fully configured it, but 🤷♂️
Please help Subjam!

@latenightlinux@mastodon.social I had to laugh with the whole, 'The future of UIs is that they're all the same'. To the contrary, I don't *want* my DE to 'just get out of the way', in fact I use Gnome3 extensions that give me the eye-candy I missed for decades. "Burn My Windows", Compiz alike magic lamp effect", "Compiz windows effect", "Desktop Cube" and "Transparent Inactive Windows" and even "Snowy". So satisfying! =)
I think that if more people saw these in action, it would make them want to use Linux.
Artists (of all kinds), please complete the following sentence:

@nullagent@partyon.xyz This is awesome!! So is there a single antenna for both bands? Is there a way to optimize for both freq ranges? I'm not an RF expert so forgive me if I'm missing something.

@nateb Seems like every other day there's insane incompetency demonstrated by M$. At this point I'm just happy I don't use Windows or any other M$ software by choice.
"Once upon a time in 2011, a local rock radio station switched formats without notice. All of the local bands that relied on it for exposure through local music promotional shows were suddenly orphaned.
People were so upset that they picketed the streets in front of the studio. Imagine a mob of rockers yelling to cars that they just want their radio station back!"
I'll always remember this time and place. It's what inspired me to start Subjam, and still does.
