@ascentale@sfba.social @MartyCormack@urbanists.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social I'm posting from Saskatoon, SK, CAN. A rack and basket made such a huge difference to my cycling experience that I wish I would have had one from the start. I went from trying to fit groceries, books, and other stuff in a backpack (which was heavy and awkward) to being able to ride unencumbered. My bike doesn't have a super conventional design, but the staff at my then-favourite (now-closed) bike shop were able to rig up a rack for me, and I've since replaced it with one designed for bike packing with mountain bikes so I can carry heavier loads. Even on a recreational ride, I can toss my phone, wallet, jacket, water bottle, whatever, in it, and I never have to be concerned with deciding on route to stop to pick something up. It's fantastic! #bikeNite #bikeTooter

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social @juliette@mastodon.green @sam@social.coop I've pinned larger skirts using safety pins and used ankle straps for trousers, but I haven't needed to as much since a mechanic at a bike shop put a large sprocket cover onto my bike. (Apparently, my bike isn't designed for a chain guard.). It's helped. #bikeNite #bikeTooter

@ascentale@sfba.social @uxMark@cosocial.ca @bikenite@fedigroups.social I'd go for some sort of step-through cargo bike, like an omafiet with front and back racks/baskets and a trailer hitch. I like having lots of places to put things. #bikeNite #bikeTooter

@ascentale@sfba.social @sheromon@hachyderm.io @bikenite@fedigroups.social I like to support my local bike shop. I have a few near me to choose from, so I frequent the one that has had consistently good and non-judgemental service. However, I've also ordered parts from local bike shops in nearby cities if I can't get the parts locally. #bikeNite #bikeTooter

@ascentale@sfba.social @puppethead@ieji.de @bikenite@fedigroups.social I prefer to bike on the paths, but sometimes it's impossible to get onto them from where I'm coming from or impossible to take to my destination. I also know some cyclists who find it easier to cycle with vehicular traffic because it's difficult to pass people on the narrow standard-width bike paths we have here. Overall, I think having some cyclists on the paths and some on the roads is a good thing became it helps drivers to understand (if such a thing is possible) that the roads actually belong to everyone. #bikeNite #bikeTooter

@bobjonkman@mastodon.sdf.org @bookwar@nrw.social @ascentale@sfba.social @MartyCormack@urbanists.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social You could also try finding a rack that has a deck above the tire that would accommodate a big basket and lower pannier bars for your panniers to get both options. But those lower baskets do look amazing.

13km from home: What fun clouds! 10km from home: What an incredible sunset! 5km from home: I think I just saw a flash of lightning in the distance. Cool! 3km from home: Wow! That was a really bright flash of lightning! And another one! 2km from home: Oh, that's definitely heading this way... 1.5km from home: Pedal faster! Pedal faster! 0.05km from home: I think I just felt a drop of rain. It started pouring while we were putting the bikes in the garage. Perfect timing. #bikeTooter

@fullywoolly@mastodon.social You might be able to find some locally, too, if you look. I know a running shop near me stocked some for a while to help runners be more visible at night. They're too fun to have ever truly gone out of style!

@ascentale@sfba.social @isol@mastodon.au @bikenite@fedigroups.social For a very silly, not-historically-accurate, bike-related mystery option, there was an episode of Murdoch Mysteries that featured bike racing in the early 1900s: https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/video/1.4334787 (a video about the episode). It focuses less on the bikes themselves and more on doping, though. #bikeNite
