I got referred to as "one of the elders" at work the other day.

I still feel 17 on the inside.

Just to clarify if anyone doesn't grasp it, this was with regards to the recent information about the social media ban for under 16s in the UK. Keir Starmer announced plans for Spring 2027 on 15th June 2026.

@Gina I'm a parent. In THEORY I believe that what was said when releasing this is something / somewhat agreeable. In PRACTICE I expect a shitstorm. I don't believe young children should be given unfiltered access to the Internet. It is up to parents with support from schools to educate and reinforce. I'll be teaching my children, using methods to block and restrict. I can see where this comes from though. Too much child abuse has started the ball rolling on the potential enshittification of the Internet for the rest of us. Mental health for children is paramount, but being a millennial who grew up with the Internet - I'm sure we can figure out the best ways ourselves without a spy app.

I read today that the Nothing Phone (1) is getting its last security patch soon. The phone was released on 21st July 2022. I would really rather we stop this short lifespan with technology. 4 years is such a short space of time, especially when often devices can last a lot longer than that. I have the Nothing Phone (2), and intend to continue using it, likely with a custom ROM, even after support ends. Imagine if we all collectively decided to at least double the support length of thee devices.

I spent ~1 hour this morning trying to get my USB keyboard & mouse to work on my work Qubes computer.

A recent update, which also updated the Linux kernel to 6.19.x meant that the sys-usb kernel panicked upon start-up.

A "fun" hour which reminded me why I enjoy using Debian stable at home.

In general Qubes is fantastic. I am a big fan when it works. It's when it doesn't..

I have a very unpopular opinion (especially in Sweden).

Popcorn should be sweet.

Salty popcorn is absolutely vile.

@zeroase@fosstodon.org The current LTS version is Debian 11 ("bullseye") and will be supported until August 31st, 2026. To receive security updates for Debian 11, your /etc/apt/sources.list should look like this one: deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main contrib non-free deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main contrib non-free deb https://deb.debian.org/debian-security bullseye-security main contrib deb-src https://deb.debian.org/debian-security bullseye-security main contrib Note that if you already follow security.debian.org (and you should), this should mostly be a no-op. In other words, Debian LTS reuses the same mirror infrastructure as the regular release team, it's just a responsibility handover. https://wiki.debian.org/LTS/Using

Being a parent is a bit like having a Chromium browser for a brain.

You've got 20 tabs open, 5 slow to load, 4 crashed, 9 each making different noises which you can't distinguish, and 1 which somehow managed to use 192 GB of memory even though you've only got 16.

Does anyone have experience with #lundhags hiking boots?

I am possibly interested in buying some, but am unsure which are the most suitable for walking through Swedish forests. I walk all year round, come rain, snow or shine.

@missnfranchised@glitterkitten.co.uk I don't think that's quite it. This is with regards to the under 16 social media ban which Keir Starmer spoke about on the 15th June. In order to have an Internet free of those things I'd suggest you consider an adblocker, perhaps at the DNS level as well as within your browser. As a very biased side note: Mullvad VPN offers the ability to block unwanted things. Biased because I'm an employee.
