@Sempf@infosec.exchange @catsalad@infosec.exchange I just asked uhmm...well, not to dox me but someone who literally wrote papers on spectroscopy. Like... a lot of papers. We owe a lot of dual-core processors to their spectrospenis... which isn't the way you are supposed to say it but it annoys them so I do it anyway.

@Sempf@infosec.exchange @cR0w@infosec.exchange I have updates and they are NOT what I was anticipating my guys. One guy laughed at me and said he was going to go ask his agent what it thought about that. :mind_blown: Another one said, "You clearly do not understand AI" which I feel is window-throwing adjacent. And then they started talking about nuances in AI and I left.

@cR0w@infosec.exchange @rootwyrm@weird.autos @scottwilson@infosec.exchange Kids don't have a choice in this. If they are actively hostile, they'll be sent to retraining. At this point, school is absolutely online. They get issued laptops from the schools and have their accounts setup for them without their approval. I can't imagine they'll have even half the chances we had to become obfuscated. By the time they learn multiplication tables, they've been logging in/out of cloud services for years.

I'm curious how badly that is going to disrupt the teachers. I know some teachers are technical. But we all have PTSD from having to explain tech to non-techs....

@cR0w@infosec.exchange @scottwilson@infosec.exchange :1000: And we all know how impervious to damage and inconvenience teens are. The chaos and timing of this breach is like... almost perfect. As entrenched as kids are with tools like Google Drive, Canvas, etc. it doesn't shock me we have hits. We're trying to make kids in 6th grade carry the same level of responsibility as adults, who fail at it as well.

This is a bad decision. If this destroys their reputation completely - I hope the next company does better.

@Sempf @GossiTheDog Agreed. I know it's pedantic but Hanlon's razor works well here. "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity" I don't think the makers at Microsoft are an evil cabal trying to unwind their company. I think a bunch of short-sighted executive types have bad data and are making poor decisions.
