omfg i'm so happy my #Daikin AC can finally be added to #homeassistant thanks to this custom integration, let's go!!!

there were plenty of Daikin integrations available, but all of them served only Daikin EU or wherever else, not GO DAIKIN users including in Malaysia. this integration works specifically for GO DAIKIN, and it's so bloody simple to set up.

I've self-hosted my own #Forgejo server for a while now and it's been such a freaking delight to work with, and gives me some relief that my code/#Git repos have a place outside of #GitHub. When I started this however, I couldn't fully migrate everything I had to Forgejo - as some were still tied to GitHub's actions and their hosted runners. Before I could migrate them, I'd need to set up runners of my own on the Forgejo server.

Seeing GitHub's rapid deterioration lately, I resumed my search on setting up runners on Forgejo the
right way, and was initially under the impression that it's gonna be complicated... but as it turns out, it really isn't. I set up a simple runner on a remote #RaspberryPi I had using #Docker (Compose) and it was ready to go. Porting my actions/workflows files were super easy too, unlike doing the same for something like #GitLab. Now all of my repos that were on GitHub and had some CI/CD set up have been migrated to my Forgejo server, using my own runners.

I've updated my
#Homelab Wiki topic on Forgejo to include the optional step to set up a Forgejo runner. If you're now only considering deploying Forgejo, feel free to check out the rest of the topic which covers the complete setup, some basic recommended configurations, and even how to migrate your repos to Forgejo and set up push mirroring so they still exist on GitHub (if you choose to).

Just a quick update: Mocha has successfully been neutered this morn xD He stayed w us last nite so we cld enforce him fasting, he'll stay w us tonite so we cld take care of him as he recovers, and we'll see if he needs to stay w us for another nite tomorrow. Barely got any sleep last nite with him constantly waking me. Also this experience reminded me how Mocha rarely meows, but rather, he 'chirps'. It's so cute lol, he's literally a lil, cute birdie.

Getting a #MacBook to use on its own - great. Today I'm reminded - using it as a desktop... not so much, unless you use #Apple peripherals too like their official display and trackpad/mouse. Fortunately, keyboard's unaffected by this #macOS incompetence.

For trackpads - sure, Apple's is the best I've used still and is something I'll always buy and use, happily. Display - nah, even if they're affordable. They're just too limited and I'd go just as nuts if I was using a
#Dell laptop and u tell me I can ONLY use Dell monitors, gross. All in all, as nice as it is Apple's Macs are, macOS is a hot mess.

holy crap #samsung UI looks garbage even compared to other #android ‘skins’ lololol but #samsungpay integrating #duitnowQR now is seriously cool. they’re starting with #maybank but seems like they’ll add #shopeepay too. #apple needs to get in on this instead of only supporting the ‘traditional’ NFC payments. cooler if they can even figure out supporting these QR payments without internet connection, but dk if dats technically feasible.

#Flatpak for graphical apps, #Nix packages for CLI apps seems to be a great combo for immutable systems like #SteamOS? Tho I reckon Nix packages wouldn't really help for installing 'system-level' things like drivers or even things like #KDE Plasma widgets, Dolphin service menus, and such?

Is #Nix a stable thing on #macOS (#Apple Silicon Macs in particular, if that matters)? I remember hearing that the setup process is pretty disruptive - requiring some manual partitioning or wtv, is that still the case? If it's worth the hassle, since I'm already using #Nix on #Linux, I may want to have it on my #MacBook as well. I'm also curious just how usable are the graphical packages on macOS when installed using Nix, seeing how even on (non-#nixOS) Linux, graphical apps are a lot of the time incompatible, so I end up only really using it for non-graphical packages. I imagine that'd be pretty similar on macOS and u'd still need #Homebrew for most apps.

@geerlingguy@mastodon.social I'd love to have this on my (non-RPi) Linux servers too, which I'm hoping will happen someday if this is already possible on Windows. Most of the time, it's not needed since it's super easy to just set up WireGuard and be able to access evetg - but I find it very handy and reassuring to have esp when ure deploying your RPi (or server) to somewhere remote, in an unfamiliar environment. Few times now it saved my butt, when I just needed to fix some kinks that caused the VPN server to go down or wtv.

Malaysian road kills/accidents never fail to make me fucking fuming - esp this one, involving killing/injuring cats and dogs who were bound to an expo in hopes of being adopted. By a lorry of fucking course.

Since our govs of the day can never solve this fucking recurring issue might as well just ban all Malaysians from driving la. Better that than actually taking some fucking proactive action to address this, maybe. Cibai.

Every fucking day, every fucking week, someone has to pay for these sohai drivers on the road. Buto nak mampus.

@Flaky@furry.engineer yea, same exp here. I loathe Windows (Microsoft, more like and their obsession w doing stupid shit), but RAM hasn't been an issue in the years I used it - and I've used it with 8GB RAM and 16GB RAM. They're memory hungry too, and the experience of not having enough RAM, like 8GB, is laggy and sluggish, but the exp was never bad enough for me to look for a 'fix' to it. Never even meddled with swap (virtual memory) on Windows or wtv, just never needed to. On Linux tho... :/ but still. If this issue continues to get the attention it desperately needs, which it seems to be currently due to this AI boom and soaring memory prices, I've faith this can be sorted out with time (it might take a looong time tho, depends). macOS has solved this forever ago, no reason Linux couldn't get the same treatment.

Oh wow, I guess there's work being done on bringing back the Oxygen theme to #KDE Plasma? I've never used/not been familiar with Oxygen but it looks kinda like #Apple 's old #macOS or even Liquid Glass and I super dig it compared to the flat designs we have today on #Linux. Exciting.

edit: there's some parts that look like classic
#Windows instead, and some of its icons do look a bit... industrial rather than friendly imo but still, a nice, inspiring design overall rather than boring and dull.

People in the UK don't use AC - and shame those who do, even in extreme heatwave (and people have died bcos of it, esp elderlies) just bcos it's bad for the environment? Wow. I'm genuinely amazed lol (and worried at the same time). That's pretty unthinkable for someone who lives in AC (almost) 24/7. Shame on me, I guess.

I didn’t notice how quickly my cat’s drink from his water fountain gets so cold so quickly by being in an AC room. Not an issue when he was an outdoor cat, since his fountain would be outdoors. How do people, especially those living in cold countries, keep the water in ‘regular’ room temp? I tried putting warm water but istg it got cold pretty instantly too despite having AC set to only like ~28, 27.

edit: oh but googling says it’s fine that they’re cold and cats love that. really? i just thought its an issue cos sometimes my cat coughs after drinking from the (clean) fountain

arrived back in KL at abt ~7.55pm or so earlier. super knackered AND sunburnt (lobster nose and cheeks and back), and regretting not taking leave for tuesday too, but i'm glad i chose to extend my stay till Monday cos the traffic today was perfectly smooth. some parts of the drive had heavy rain tho. --- edit: also Mocha welcomed us home!!! i think we were apart for too long (4 days lol) cos he was kinda shocked at first when I was calling for him lmao. AND the fancy auto feeder we bought for him, specifically due to this trip, has been useless cos he didnt eat from it whatsoever (really need to teach him to eat food we put out for him, without us there to accompany), INSTEAD the only thing the feeder's been feeding this whole trip was our local neighbourhood squirrel lol. that squirrel literally finished ~30g bowl of kibbles in the span of those 4 days. the water fountain we got for Mocha has been doing wonders tho, he drank from it everyday instead of drinking from our pond or some random puddle.

ok the last time I tried the #AirPods Pro 3 at the #Apple Store... it was pretty shit (compared to my APP1) - the concern I had abt comfort was immediately gone cos it was just as comfortable (if not more), but the transparency/noise cancelling mode was awful (which is amazing on APP1), and the sound was meh.

but i guess that was a fluke cos i tried it out again today, knowing i'll be getting them anyway (cos my wife wants my APP1 - which is still perfect to this day even after more than 5 years, battery life included, crazy), and my experience was completely the opposite. The sound was marvelous, transparency mode was as good if not better, it also has Adaptive mode which the APP1 does not (so i'll have to test it out for longer to see how it works), and the noise cancellation too was excellent.

I think the poor exp I had first time trying it out months ago could be boiled down to how absolutely cramped the Apple Store was on that day. It was full too today, but not as full and def not as loud. All in all, I'm excited to get it - been a while since I spent money on audio gear (something I used to do quite a lot). I cld've just got them from the Apple Store physically, but
smart buyers know to always get em from #Shopee lol.

#KDE 's #Gwenview 'sidebar features', esp Annotate, could really, really gain from some extra love. Some features being buggy is one thing, but the amount of times I've seen people use it to annotate and then miss to save it, losing their edits completely, simply bcos of its confusing separate window just to annotate and its placements of buttons etc. is just not ideal.

i like how most things in #homeassistant is documented (i.e. infra as code). automations, scripts, etc. are just yaml files u cld store and reuse. it's too bad helpers, another important component of HA is not as portable and reusable tho - i prolly understand why, it may be challenging to implement it otherwise, but it sucks that i cant keep my helpers as files i can then just reapply/reuse.

It's been this way forever n idk why #OBS allows disabling a source on #Windows, but doesn't on #Linux. Why? Pretty stupid that I always have to completely delete my Camera source from OBS before getting on calls on e.g. a browser while having OBS open in the background, cos OBS is holding my cam hostage eventho I'm not using it or have it in the foreground or wtv. On Windows this was easily solvable by simply disabling the source - tho I've noticed since years ago when I migrated to Linux that it's just not a thing. I wonder if it's a Linux limitation, explaining why OBS does not implement it - or OBS just doesn't for no reason.

My Mocha always makes the saddest 'cries' asking to be let out whenever we bring him into our room xD He loves coming into the house, but he clearly wants to be outdoors too most of the time. Idk if he'd ever be more 'chill' about staying inside. Tbf he is 'chill' when he's inside and very easy to take care of, but he's also not gonna stop periodically asking u to be let out, or try to bolt whenever the door's open.

My biggest concern is leaving the food out in the bowl with no way to close/retract it, since that'll just cause ants to come flooding - maybe make the food masuk angin too. Loveeeee and so tempted by the new #Framework 13 Pro Laptop - it's literally upgraded from everything I love about them before, AND addressed all of the shortcomings they had, as someone spoiled by #Apple 's #MacBook Pros and such, including: haptic trackpad, nice screen, BEAUTIFUL KEYBOARD with no #Windows logo or cringey fonts/typography/legends, GREAT battery life (on #Intel at least?), BEAUTIFUL CNC-machined aluminium chassis in black, and all of the ports are #Thunderport/#USB4 capable with their trademark configurable expansion slots. That haptic trackpad is BIG for me, none of them cheapo Windows trackpads please. Lastly, ofc, it officially and proactively supports #Linux out of the box which is biiiig.

The only thing holding me back is the
price, which honestly isn't that bad considering the amazing, niche thing you're getting (and my configuration was esp expensive bcos I NEED that 64GB of RAM on Linux, I know too well 32GB wouldn't cut it lol), and also the fact that they don't ship to Malaysia. I could ship it to SG as I've family members, friends, colleagues there but for wtv reason (even before shipping/duties, I think) my config cost ~2K MYR more vs their US pricing. I also have colleagues in the US that I could theoretically pre-order and send them to... but nah, I wouldn't wanna trouble them lol. I've long requested for Fw to ship their products here, but that was yeaaars ago and it hasn't happened so I wouldn't count on it. Same case with #Valve 😴

Anyway, this thing's gonna sell like hotcakes and I wish I could hop on it too :')
