I use #TapestryApp so much that I recently had a dream in my sleep, in which I went into the appearance settings and there were new theming options. Pretty nice dream, not gonna lie… 🫠

@overcastfm@mastodon.social I really appreciate Smart Speed and Voice Boost on Apple Watch, but I think that toggles for these features should be below the chapter controls instead of above, so that skipping a chapter doesn’t require an additional swipe.

I published a connector for #TapestryApp for following a channel that you specify, from any @peertube@framapiaf.org instance. I previously only published the source code, so I don't think anyone used it but me. Now I also published the final file with the ".tapestry" extension, which is ready to be added to the app, without requiring their developer tool. Maybe someone will find it useful. I thought "we already have connectors for Mastodon and YouTube, so why not PeerTube too?". https://git.gracjan.xyz/gracjan/Tapestry-Plugins/releases

RE: @mipstian@mas.to

It's the perfect time to try Wipr 2 if you haven't yet.

Previously, it blocked content (ads, trackers, cookie popups, etc.) only in Safari. Now, it has a new, optional feature called Filtr, which extends blocking to all your apps.

It does so better than a DNS-based solution because it can target things based on the entire URL (instead of only the domain) and doesn't have access to your traffic.

It's likely the first app using the URL Filter API added by Apple last year.

There’s a common reason why I like Mastodon, blogs or news sites with RSS feeds, and podcasts (which are also RSS).

Well, there are many reasons, but a big one of them is having freedom over how I access the content. Instead of being forced to use a proprietary mobile or web interface made for a given social network or publisher, I can use any Mastodon client, RSS reader and podcast player I want. If an app stops serving my needs, I can move elsewhere.

@Iconfactory@iconfactory.world I backed it. I'm not much of a gamer these days, but I'm certainly a fan of your work. I've been using Tapestry every day since it was in beta, and I really like the wallpapers you create for Wallaroo. Since I don't have to pay anything for Tapestry, because my Kickstarter level gave me lifetime access (which is very generous), I thought it's worth it to support you in this other way. Plus, I'm curious about the bonus wallpaper pack I'll receive. Thanks for all your work!

@mipstian The UI is great. It looks pretty, and the feature is quick and easy to turn on. Very intuitive. 👍🏻 As far as the server component is concerned, you're probably right. Wipr was stuck retrying the activation and throwing a “Filtr Server Problem” error. I had to disable the URL Filter extension in the Settings app.

@mipstian@mas.to The test I did yesterday finally gave me some peace of mind, because I've been thinking about this problem since I reported the tracking domains to you over a month ago. I've called Apple about it, sent feedback via their web form and checked after iOS updates (including betas) if the behavior was resolved. I also thought about contacting Duolingo or even resetting iOS settings or erasing the device (which luckily I didn't do, because it seemed overkill).

@mipstian@mas.to I got an update on some domains seemingly bypassing Filtr and App Privacy Report. Yesterday, I installed Proxyman on Mac to see iPhone’s HTTP traffic in real time. I noticed that Duolingo and Allegro did not make connections to tracking domains I expected when Filtr was on. My new theory is that these apps did DNS lookups (which showed up in my DNS logs), but Filtr was blocking them from actually connecting and sending data. Or maybe I don’t understand Proxyman and did this wrong.

@neatnik@social.lol Have you considered OIDC login to SourceTube via Neatnik ID? I currently run a Forgejo instance on my own server and I use Pocket ID (a self-hosted OIDC provider), which allows me to sign in with a passkey.

@mipstian Hopefully they approve it soon. Btw. I'm really happy that Filtr will likely launch to everyone alongside iOS 26.5. I will notify my uncle when that happens. I said to him a few times that the feature is in development, and I think he (and his wife and kids) will be very happy with it.

@josh9@mastodon.social Filtr works well overall. I typically don’t use apps with a lot of third-party ads, but I do want to block tracking in some apps and the operating system itself. From the beginning, it seemed to me like AdGuard Home was blocking fewer queries, which means Filtr blocks them. I'm hunting down what's getting through and reporting it. The reports are being resolved quickly. Unfortunately, there was an app that was bypassing Filtr with some tracking, but I no longer needed it, so I removed it.

@josh9@mastodon.social What's interesting is that in the process of hunting down apps and domains, I realized that the blocklists I used in AdGuard Home were a bit too restrictive for my taste. I was checking if something should be blocked for most users before reporting it, and I realized that I don't want to block some domains that were being blocked by AdGuard Home, which led me to change from Hagezi's Pro++ Blocklist to Hagezi's Normal Blocklist and to remove a supplementary blocklist from the same author.

@brandonbutler@mastodon.social @rmondello@hachyderm.io I think every service should allow users to have a fully passwordless account. If I already have an account and I register a passkey — allow me to get rid of my password and other factors (like SMS or TOTP). If I lose access to all my passkeys (which I know won't happen) or I need to sign in where they aren't supported, I can use a “magic link” or e-mail recovery as a last resort. Also, it should be possible to register an account without ever creating a password.

@Iconfactory@iconfactory.world Tapestry quickly became one of my favorite apps, and it evolved a lot since its introduction. I'm still on the TestFlight beta train because I want to get new improvements as soon as possible. I think at some point you wrote that you want to add the ability to reply to Mastodon posts (maybe even write new ones?) directly in the app. Is that coming this year by any chance? Also, I wish it was easier to determine which post is a reply to which in Thread View. It's a bit confusing.

@rmondello@hachyderm.io I’m glad that the new OSes bring easy importing and exporting of passkeys and other credentials. I was confident this feature would come, but I got tired of the cynicism behind accusations that passkeys were designed for vendor lock-in. I understand that having to wait a few years for it was not ideal, but the people working on this feature simply wanted to do it right this time, instead of another half-baked solution like we had before with CSV.

@mipstian Congratulations on the release! I never got around to trying Wipr 1, but I already bought Wipr 2 and I think I'm going to like it. I've used various content blockers over the years, now I’m switching from Ghostery. I consider the modern internet to be unusable (and a privacy nightmare) without an effective content blocker. I always use two pieces of the puzzle to make it nice — one is a browser extension and another is a DNS-level blocker (currently using NextDNS).

Is it two levels down? Three? Five? No idea, everything is just a big soup of posts in the Thread View. Maybe I just need to pay better attention, but it’d be nice to have some clear indicator here.

Ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Apple announced accessibility features coming this year.

I’ll use the auto-generated system-wide video captions and perhaps improved Accessibility Reader (if it’s good enough). It had issues with displaying complex content (like containing tables or multiple text columns), and it’s supposed to be better at that now.

I don’t own Apple TV hardware, but if I did, I’d probably use Larger Text too (I’m surprised it wasn’t there).

I disabled password login server-wide and only left Pocket ID enabled, but the password and information about security keys added to Forgejo is still there. I don't know how to fully get rid of the password for an existing, manually created account. In theory, it can't be used now, but it still bothers me a bit.

RE: @Mastodon@mastodon.social

The primary cause of problems with mainstream social media is complicated, black-box algorithms keeping a stranglehold on how we communicate and consume media.

I like Fedi because it's free of that. A side effect is that it's harder to discover what I like. When I moved to Mastodon, I already knew other people who also moved from Twitter. I don’t know how I'd have started without it.

Which is why I'm happy that Mastodon is introducing the Collections feature.

@rmondello@hachyderm.io It resonates with me what you said about actually allowing the user to drop the password. Some services allow that (PlayStation does it automatically), but at this stage most don’t yet. I’m happy that I can sign in to some accounts with a passkey, but the password is still there as a fallback, which I don’t need or want. This has further implications, in that I still need TOTP or SMS enabled to protect against password attacks, if a passkey isn’t asked for in that case.

It was posted after my reply, which was to the first post. I wasn't talking about projects made by individual people in their spare time. I did mean (which I should have made clearer) the exclusion of Linux users by companies and large teams, who make cross-platform software (sometimes FOSS, sometimes proprietary), who assume all Linux users are comfortable with the CLI.

@Iconfactory@iconfactory.world I'm having an issue with Tapestry on macOS. I don't know if it started with some update or if it's always been the case, but it's certainly been bothering me for a while.

When I have an article opened in Detail View in its own window and I do the two-finger pinch gesture on the trackpad to zoom in while my cursor is over an image, it opens the image in a separate window (which shouldn't happen). When I close the image window and zoom back out, the image opens again.
