I found the clipped comment on an old phone a little bit ago. No clue where it's from or who it's to, but it's been living rent free in my head ever since, soooo time to make art with it!

We've built this thing. I think it's pretty neet. But we've got no clue who else would think so, to share it with.
It's a little gizmo that connects to your network, and lets you send and record IR signal using a REST API.
So you can record the functions of your TV or amp remote, save them in a file, and then activate them from any device that send an HTTP request, which is basically everything these days.
I've set up my Elgato Streamdeck to assign http requests to various buttons, to mimic the handful of functions I generally use, so it can act as a universal remote.
buuuut cos the IR signal can be saved to a file and triggered with come thing like a CURL command, you can script stuff to do more advanced things.
Not especially relevant to my current job but...
one of the things that bugs me most about my career? The way i've repeatedly earned the reputation in a company for being able to hunt down, puzzle out, and fix the 'weird problems'.
Which is great! I AM good at it. it's an important skill to have an an asset to any tech company that want to stick around.
The problem is that it's a skill that means you often work in isolation, and no one understands what it is you do or how you do it. So when the review cycle comes around the rest of the team have nothing to say about you, and your manager's feedback is a shrug and 'good work, I guess?".
It's critical work, that often is a stand in for the company's whole infosec strategy. but it doesn't tick of the investor friendly KPI's.

Another new treasure!
A tiny £30 eink ereader!
Now, to void its warranty and get some decent firmware in there!
Stuff we've done today:
- Fixed our old Monster Hunter themed 3DS
- Fixed our old PS Vita
- Fixed an old Minidisc player we got off eBay; in Japanese.
- Worked on our universal Linux based IR remote.
- Sorted out some tax paperwork
- Walked Rauði
- Worked fulltime job.
- Wondered why we're so damned tired!?
Progress! Now we can controll our Minidisc player over the network, and name tacks soooo much more easily! We can pass it a whole playlist and have this gizmo enter the name automatically :D

New version of our network controlled IR automation thingie. The nice and tidy pre built IR emitter wasn't nearly powerful enough for me needs, soooooooo we built a better one!
And added a little screen to check network connectivity and IP address and stuff.
Does mean I'm going to need to do more soldering in the near future.

Underside of the forearm is where we got our first tattoo and we didn't have any issues. Not all thatpainful, healed easily, easy to care for, and the ink hasn't faded much over the past decades.
We've had people commission us for tattoo designs in the past, and we've deisgned all of our own, but not fully tattooed them ourselves. Most tattoo artists will be fine with working with another persons design, but may suggest alterations to better work in tattoo form, or in their personal style. Any tattoo artist will helply work with you from the most basic of designs to develop it to someting that you're happy with :)
The blaster project progresses!
We got it switching the Mini disc player on and off now, soooooo we should have the Sony encoded signals sorted out.
Which means we should be able to automate the rest of the functions on the player :D

When you move you armthe design may not be quite where you expect in different possitions. So check how it looks when your arm is at your side, when outstretched, and so on.

@ericjames it's got to be a little strange for normies when they come to our house. It's the house 2 furries that have been married for almost 20 years; so we've got all the usual married people couple's pictures and stuff on the walls, but it's ALL commissioned furry art.

@ericjames yikes! When we were sorting out my visa to move to the US, we had to gather "evidence of prior relationship" and present it to the US embassy. but All our photos together were from Fur cons, and all the chat logs had our fursona icons, and names, and were mostly links to furry stuff XD

To be honest, from my non-expert POV, the diagnostic criteria for both is weirdly haphazard. In no small part cos of the way the DSM is writen (with a focus on putting a diagnosis on the patient for billing perpouses, even if that isn't well definend) and it's influence on diagnostic practice outside of the US is kinda outsized.

@tardis Yeah, 'Happy' kinda feels like the wrong word. I hate what we went throught to get here, and how difficult it makes life sometimes. but at the same time, we wouldn't have made it this far without it. My headmates bring me great comfort these days, and I wonder how differnt our life would have been if we'd had support in understand ourself sooner.
It's complicated, but I wonder how much of that is down to navigating the stigma more than the DID itself.
Either way, we survived and that's worth recognising :)
