Today we've added S.O.S., a long lost 1993 Hungarian Commodore Plus/4 game where you pilot a rescue boat to save drowning people. Another small but important piece of gaming history preserved thanks to Csaba Virág: https://www.gamesthatwerent.com/2026/07/s-o-s/

Did you know a brand new Gauntlet game was completed for the Nintendo DS... but never released? Despite being reviewed by magazines such as Retro Gamer, the game was cancelled before it reached the shelves. Thankfully it survives today.

Source code has been recovered for Imagitec's unreleased Raiden (Amiga/Atari Falcon), with sources suggesting around 8 Amiga levels and additional Falcon content beyond the known 3-level shareware build. We've also added early Space Junk (Atari Falcon) sources. Huge thanks to tomseddon for preserving the archive and dlfrsilver for the heads up! https://www.gamesthatwerent.com/2026/07/raiden-space-junk-sources/

The Amstrad CPC6128 edition of New York Warriors was released with both disk sides containing the first side, losing a whole side of levels! Lost for 36 years, author Fred Williams has kindly allowed Games That Weren't to release the lost full version:

https://www.gamesthatwerent.com/2026/03/new-york-warriors-missing-levels-recovered/

It is thanks to Kevin Edwards that the game was preserved, after Fred sent his 3" disks to Kevin.

A Zelda-style game on the Commodore 64 that looks closer to the SNES than the NES. Mythos was an incredible demo hiding inside a C64 release, showing just how far it could be pushed, before being quietly abandoned.

Bounty Hunter (Amstrad CPC) is a new prototype release at Games That Weren't and quite advanced stage multi-screen platform action. There are possible links to Raffaele Cecco too - so was this one of his, or perhaps a game that inspired Exolon?

https://www.gamesthatwerent.com/2026/06/bounty-hunter/

With a huge thank you to Dean Hickingbottom for allowing us to preserve.

We'll be taking a short break next week for a much needed holiday, but we'll have more recoveries, updates and preservation work to share soon.

In the meantime, if you'd like to help support our searches and preservation efforts, please consider sharing the archive or any posts/pages that interest you using the sharing tools across the site. Every little bit genuinely helps us reach more people who may have material, memories or leads to help preserve gaming history.

Fairy Tale - a dark, twisted reimagining of classic stories like Cinderella, Beauty & the Beast and Pinocchio. Pitched in 2007 by Stormfront Studios for PS3 and Xbox 360, this hack and slash concept blended Devil May Cry style action with American McGee's Alice, but never made it further:

@kelpana Hi Alanna, my apologies for the delay responding. It's not something we've preserved personally - though looks like someone has on archive.org: https://archive.org/details/Unpleasant_Horse_1.0.1_ios_3.2.2 My guess is that you'd need an old iPad which is unlocked so that you can sideload the IPA file to it to play. I did that for an unreleased iPad game (that had a demo release) to get screenshots once.

@Rairii It looks like it - not sure how much it emulated - perhaps just enough to give a rough idea of progress. There is a screenshot on Archive.org of it running a Kong prototype - but I wasn't able to get anything other than a black screen on XP or before. Seems like some DLL or similar is missing somewhere (or it needs a particular version of Direct X from that era).

Thanks for taking a look @h0ffman@mas.to - just a heads up that a few people have found that the CD volume just needed to be renamed to MEGARACE and it works. Seems to be some corruption - which might be part of the original CD. I should be getting hold of it to redump next month.
