I'm very grateful for all of the awesome people I met here and became friends with 🙂

They want to steal our right to install the software of our choosing on the device that we bought and paid for, but before they can do that they introduced this "advanced-flow" to prevent the normalization and prevalence of 3rd party app distributers like @fdroidorg@floss.social There is malware on Google play store, it was never about safety.

I love these discussions that assume humans are the golden benchmark that never makes mistakes or errors.

No one ever said that lol 😂 Making mistakes is part of being human, but as we gain more life experience and expertise in an area the number of mistakes we make keep decreasing.

Also human mistakes are very different from the kinds of mistakes LLMs make, this point always gets lost when people talk about it.

@yoasif @quarknova I think the truth is that it is a total mess when it comes to AI and copyright regulation, we know big tech companies have literally used pirated books to train their AI and nothing was done about it. So I don't know if saying "Wikipedia allowed it" make any sense, to me it seems like they would've scraped the data anyway like they did with the books (and the entire internet for the most part).

@jp @powRSS I also remember hearing that some non-native speakers may use AI to improve their language or sometimes to translate from other languages. I think the main question should be whether the content is actually authentic, and whether they are using AI maliciously (like slop articles, in which case they will try to hide the fact that they are using AI).

@yoasif @quarknova It would be interesting to see how a license like Creative Commons be applicable in the case of LLMs, does it mean all of the LLM's output must also be licensed under the same? Yeah it would've been nice if Wikipedia had fought back legally, even if they might fail it would've lead to some interesting discussions about copyright laws and LLMs.

@stux@mstdn.social This is one thing I really liked when I used friendica for the first time, their terminology is very clear. They have "like" and "dislike" buttons, where mastodon has a "favorite" button that acts as a like button. And they use the term "reshare" instead of "boost", it makes so much sense. I'm glad you changed the name from toot to publish. Also a gentle reminder that #fediverse is a lot bigger than just mastodon, so every post you see on your timeline is not actually a "toot" 😀 @Gargron@mastodon.social

@henry@ecoevo.social Yes, Friendica is one of the platforms in the fediverse, so you may see Friendica posts on your timeline. I use the mobile app https://fedilab.app and in it I can see which platform a user is from by simply visiting their profile. But you can also manually check which platform they're on by visiting their instance and checking the about page. For example, my mastodon instance is https://fosstodon.org but I also have a Friendica account on https://social.trom.tf @stux@mstdn.social @Gargron@mastodon.social

@feditips@mstdn.social @UPPERKEES@mastodon.social Yes I have an alt account on friendica and I've seen this when I edit posts. Mastodon users also get notified when a post they interacted with is edited, and I think they also saves the edit history now. All of these are useful features, being able to edit posts will allow me to correct all of my silly typos, lol :blobcatgiggle: I hope they figure it out and add the edit feature to mastodon too :) cc: @thebiologist1117@mk.nixnet.social @frankie@mstdn.social

I'm glad its coming to mastodon too, that's great! 😀 Being able to edit your posts without deleting it is another Friendica feature but now I hear people saying its coming to mastodon too.

I have Rss feeds i’d like to import into mastodon, which would seem to make more sense, but isn’t supported

This feature is actually supported by #Friendica, which is a part of the fediverse. You just copy the URL of a website and paste it onto the Friendica search bar, if there is an RSS feed available you can directly follow it from there, and the feed items will appear on your timeline like any other posts. https://trom.tf/social lists out more features of Friendica.

The challenges we face are neither technical nor legal. The only solution is to educate our children about life with digital abundance. Throwing them into the deep end when they’re 16 or 18 is too late. It’s a wonderful and weird world. Yes, there are dark corners. There always will be. We have to teach our children what to do when they encounter them and we have to trust them.

Thank you for writing this, so true....
