@superketchup@social.vivaldi.net @doctormo@floss.social OpenBSD team has officially declared they won't accept AI code due to concern about code pollution, however, they already merged tmux patches that contain AI-assisted code, and tmux is in the base system... If you want to get away even more from AI, might want to know NetBSD are more categorically anti-AI. As a daily OpenBSD user, I'm fairly confident though that OpenBSD is gonna be alright, but I'd love to see NetBSD get more love too from developers.

#OmniOpenCon is an open source conference that takes place in Bucharest each year at the Politehnica University - not a very big thing, but for eg. last year there was a talk given by one of the developers of Collabora, there were features on new stuff in the RISC-V space, so it's not just an event for students. Last year I participated as that one weird person in the audience who didn't have a Github account and ran a QEMU of Alpine on a snail-pace notebook with no VT, this year I want to participate as a speaker, I am preparing a talk about decentralized social media, mostly about the fediverse and the ATmosphere, not just about my experiences as a power user and instance admin, but also stuff I've learned from reading and discussing with developers and lessons we can learn from the history of these networks, such as how communities deal with situations when opinionated developers try to politically abuse their coding powers (the Piefed and Tesseract debacles), and other spicy stories... https://sessionize.com/omniopencon-2026/

Pure Linux in the guise of postmarketOS was a bit too hard to swallow for this 13-year-old tablet, lineageOS had to do the trick (I was not alone in this process, thanks to Y.). So this is going to be mostly a Termux+Emacs machine. Everything else so far works a bit wonky or not at all, which is to be expected. But at least now I have a slightly more comfortable device on which I can get more serious about learning Emacs.

Surprisingly, there are quite a few articles in Romanian about decentralized social media, but most of them are translations from crypto outlets focusing more on Web3 platforms like Nostr than on ActivityPub and ATproto. I'm preparing an article that will go more into the nuts and bolts of the latter two.

Decided to let go of self-hosting purism and just signed up for a subdomain on Gemcities, so that now I could painlessly set up my first #gemspace capsule on the #Gemini protocol...

@adingbatponder@fosstodon.org @nik@toot.teckids.org ...or just maybe they should be using Artix instead, or any other distro which rejects age verification. Also, openSUSE rely on systemd, anyone concerned about their privacy should avoid systemd like the plague. Mind you, we're heading towards an era in which programmers might have to maintain multiple identities, and if you're an underage programmer, you'll have to start out anonymously. (Someone blocked me for "systemd hate". systemd's founder literally runs his own company geared towards Linux corporate compliance. Years ago, they added /etc/machine-id on top of /var/lib/dbus/machine-id - guess what, Devuan (sysvinit) don't support /etc/machine-id and the dbus version of it is randomized on each boot. Details like this can make a difference to privacy-conscious users.)

This week I feel like debloating my nearly one year old #Alpine Linux install and trying some non-wlroots based Wayland compositor. Or maybe something based on the new river, if I can get it to compile.

Been sinking my teeth over the last few days into #OpenBSD #VMM. Quite a bit unstable - maybe I'm allocating too little RAM or it's Xephyr putting too much stress?

Just discovered #Gemini #BBS and apparently managed to sign up, but unable yet to confirm email - I tried with two email addresses and neither of them has received a confirmation mail, or at least not quickly... Guess I have to wait some more?

@brad@1040ste.net @nik@toot.teckids.org OpenMandriva still exists, it's known for being the first modern distro built with clang instead of gcc... but iirc it's based currently on systemd What's really surprising is that Slackware is still alive and kicking and shouting no to age verification!

Having followed a tutorial, I could make #WireGuard wg-quick work on my #OpenBSD, but not without DNS query leaks, so I learned I must figure out #unbound - however, a noob like me can only seem to manage to fix configuration errors while unbound itself apparently won't start because of this (which I found out after learning there's more than one way to debug unbound - not elegant, imho): [1781449588] unbound[95585:0] error: bind: address already in use [1781449588] unbound[95585:0] fatal error: could not open ports I figured I should add my VPN interfaces to unbound.conf, but other than that I'm still clueless what else do I need to add or delete. Thanks for your patience.

Greetings @jssfr@zombofant.net . As you suggested, I got around trying @snikket_im@fosstodon.org ...and I encountered the following error. Which I'm not sure whether to blame on my iptables or on a dependency on systemd - I'm running OpenRC:

Error response from daemon: failed to create task for container: failed to start shim: start failed: failed to create TTRPC connection: unsupported protocol: Yunix: failed to start containers: snikket

@hayzam@mastodon.bsd.cafe @landelare@mastodon.gamedev.place Perhaps you're not paranoid enough to believe it, but another benefit (to them) to enforcing TPM2 is making it easier to lock down the userland and make it even easier to track all people. They frame DBSC as protecting us from user-agent hijackers. This is another way for them to restrict the once-open WWW.
