@LewisWorkshop@mastodon.online This is an epic offering, and I think you are totally under pricing it. Seriously these should have a premium price over your other signs, which are remarkably cheap as it is.

Today in project set backs, while showing my project in person to friends it was noticed that the wheels rotated in opposite directions to each other. So a total design cock-up. In making the differential gearboxes asymmetric in an attempt to save space I have made it impossible to flip the diff over to change drive direction. So a complete redesign and reprint of all parts is required. This probably sets back this project a few more months now. #Maker #Fail

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Hey #MakersHour Footleg here, on time! I’ve not broken any projects this week as I’m doing software making so it is all unbreakable (undoable). I’ve published updates to my Asteroids port on the Tufty2350 badge today.

No crimp connector is out of my reach now! I just did my first JST 1.25mm connectors with the new ratchet crimping tool I bought since I’ve misplaced my other crimping tool. Really pleased with this tool purchase. #Maker #electronics #MakersHour #MakerMonday

@Maker_of_Things@cupoftea.social @hollowman@fosstodon.org I’ll admit it is not as good as the original, but I got to take my little brother to the pictures to see it when it came out and we absolutely loved it and talked about it for months afterwards. We bought a photo book of the film and read it over and over. Life was simpler in those days.

Where I used to enjoy buying and making kits, I quickly found as I acquired new skills that I enjoyed making my own things from scratch a lot more. So the kits sat neglected in my cupboard of shame (for things I've bought but never used). #MakersHour

@cyclops_@fosstodon.org @freecad@social.freecad.org These don’t need to be completely water tight, just stop the water flowing straight out the end of the gutter instead of down the pipe into a water butt.
I did also print a replacement o-ring seal for a pump up mist spray watering bottle as the rubber o-ring had split. This worked well compressed by the plastic screw thread and held pressure to make the sprayer work again.

The 'poor network' claim turns out to be BS too. The real reason it fails to back up is because it is still trying to back up 6GB of deleted photos despite be turning off photo backup in several places. It took searching Google AI to find the answers. I have had to delete the 'deleted photos' on the iPhone, and turn off photo backup. Then wait 30 minutes for it to estimate the backup size. Finally it is allowing me to backup, but complained twice that I was not including photos.

@MakersHour Hi I’m Footleg. This week I’ve mainly been working on preparing for the #hackyracers autonomous robotics racing event this weekend. Tonight has been spent filing down 3D prints and working through the #MakersHour questions backwards.

And while I am on a rant, my Windows 11 menu now shows almost entirely algorithmic generated content. A quiz on rivers of Australia, links to web pages about a meteor shower, 6 top trending searches from the internet. This is on my work computer. Such a distracting mess of pushed content.

@barnesmaurice@mastodonapp.uk @freecad@social.freecad.org Ah, I see I took this screenshot before I named all the nodes in the tree more descriptively. The first Pad was to make the full width and height block. I then chamfered 3 edges on each side. Then padded each main face, giving a block with the triangular ridge all the way around on 3 sides. The linear pattern then duplicates this shape multiple times to make the series of ridges around 3 sides of a thicker block.

So, in summary: To back up an iPhone without buying an iCloud+ subscription, you need to do the following:
1) Turn off photo sync.
2) Delete all the photos from iCloud to make space for the backup.
3) Delete all the photos off the phone as it tries to back them up anyway (apparently a different setting to syncing them).
4) Delete all the photos again from the 'photos you deleted' album.
5) Attempt the backup multiple times as any micro-second network interruption voids the backup.

So it appears there is no phone to phone transfer option. At least it doesn't work. 2 hours of transferring progress spinners later and nothing actually appears to have happened. Just get to a screen where it asks if you want to restore from an iCloud backup. A backup my old phone consistently fails to make because I won't sign up for a cloud+ subscription.

iPhone backup reported 1 minute remaining throughout the duration of the progress bar. Ended up failing to back up, it claims due to poor internet. Meanwhile I am on video calls in the office on the same wifi without issues. After it finished it says it needs to be plugged into power, on wifi and turned off to backup (maybe so I can't see the awful user feedback while it does so).

iPhone backup is such a poor experience. Every screen is a push to upgrade storage for $. I have over 4.5 GB free storage in the free plan and have turned off photo backup so there is nothing close to 4GB to backup, but still it claims it cannot backup my phone unless I buy a storage plan.

Once it 'completes' the transfer the phone is considered to be set up. There is no option to retry apart from doing a complete factory reset and starting again. So here we are in hour 3 of trying to move from an older model to a new work phone. This process is clunky and painfully slow. Far from what I expected for the premium price Apple charges for the 'polished user experience'. All the Android phones I have set up just copied across from Google cloud without problems.

So it appears that 'poor network' means anything that might glitch during the backup. This could be software, network, a VPN (which I cannot turn off on this security locked down phone). So backup is not an option. But there is direct phone to phone transfer.
Learned this takes over 1 hour and if interrupted by a call or any data drop out between the phoned due to wifi noise or phones too far apart then it just goes on to set up the phone without the transfer.

@cyclops_@fosstodon.org @freecad@social.freecad.org There are certainly differences in hardness among TPUs all sold as 95A. I used the clear TPU (unknown brand) someone gave me years ago as they could not get it to print. It is noticeably squishier than the other TPU colours I have. The red in the photo was a softer TPE, but it was very hard to print and layer adhesion was not good enough so I reprinted the bottle seal in the clear TPU which is what I used in the end.
