@nixCraft@mastodon.social The AI bros:

  • He did not use a good model.
  • He did not use the correct plugins.
  • He must not look at the code.
  • He did not prompt it correctly (or several variants: did not ask XXX, did not create/update agents.md, did not ask it to "make no mistakes" 😅...)

Yet here we are, another project with apparently months of work (and I assume a few hundred dollars at least on tokens/subscriptions) that goes down the drain.

After nagging everyone for 3 years, putting Copilot buttons everywhere and constantly pushing you to use them, only about 1% of Microsoft 365 users, use the feature regularly. Another overwhelming success for Microsoft. https://www.windowslatest.com/2026/07/07/microsoft-365-copilot-adoption-is-under-4-5-after-3-years-only-1-use-it-weekly-yet-prices-went-up/

Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption is under 4.5% after 3 years, only 1% use it weekly, yet prices went up

Fewer than 4.5% of Microsoft 365 customers pay for Copilot after three years, only 1% use it weekly, and Microsoft raised prices regardless.

This #FreeCADFriday I present you an enclosure design for my SEGA8 Programmer (a programmer for flash based SEGA #MasterSystem and #GameGear cartridges). I also designed a TPU cover to avoid dust entering the Game Gear port while unused. If I go to bed after a few hours of coding or PCB routing, I have a hard time falling asleep, even when exhausted. That's because my brain activity is turned to 11 and it just cannot go down.

@glyph@mastodon.social I agree with you that from a technical perspective (even setting aside ethics and broken economics!), LLMs are a bad tool for almost everything. But I still find some valid use cases. For example they look decent on bug/vulnerability assessment, where it seems that with current frontier models the time wasted evaluating false positives is much lower than the time wasted finding the vulns with traditional tools. What do you think, are there valid use cases from a tech perspective?

@slyka I did not dig into that. Currently the JLC fab files include the "JLC friendly" BOM, but for other manufacturers they only have the Gerber files in their desired naming convention. Could have investigated more into this, but I don't think there is anyone that has ordered assembled any of my designs in other fab than JLC.

@slyka I use Kibot to automagically generate fabrication files for several manufacturers, not only JLC. A Gitlab CI/CD script runs it each time I create a tag, generates fab files, documentation (including 3D exports, BRD files, etc.), packs everything and uploads it to the package registry.

@slyka Yes, I assign them in KiCad. KiBot requires you to name the field "LCSC#" instead of "MPN", so I sometimes do just that, other times I name it "MPN", and then mess with the KiBot config file to use the MPN field. For example this artifact is generated using this config and setting the "LCSC#" field in KiCad.
