Finally, an open hardware printer you can actually understand, repair, and upgrade.
On a lighter note, I don't know anywhere else one might work that gets complaints about a lack of unicorn poop.
A 20-something kid just saw me wearing a Star Wars shirt, and asked if one of my kids got it for me. I asked him if he was aware that the first Star Wars movie came out 49 years ago.
He didn't believe me.

I just had a patron come in wanting to print a screenshot from their phone, of a conversation they had with Gemini regarding ADA regulations. They wanted to present the screenshot at the next council meeting to persuade them to make some change to their building.
It took a few minutes of going back and forth with the guy to convince him to go talk to a librarian, so they could help him find the actual regulation, rather than trusting what the AI is telling him.

@nixCraft I've been watching this happen online for a decade now. I know it isn't the student's faults. It's not even the fault of the education system.
Walls of text with no capitalization, no punctuation, no delineation between sentences or paragraphs. You have to read it four times to understand it.
Here in the US, our government has been deliberately undercutting our education system since the 1980s, it's no wonder our literacy rate is tanking.
I've been trying to go to lunch for two hours. Things keep popping up. I'm losing hope...

More of the Pixelfed saga...
Gram.social admin never did respond, and my account was still unlisted, so I deleted it yesterday.
Pixelfed.de admin has also not responded, and that account is also still unlisted on day three. I'll be deleting that one momentarily.
This is just beyond fucking ridiculous.
My options at this point are pixelfed.social (maybe) or self-host, or just don't do Pixelfed... or stick with broken pixlmo.com.
Option three might just be it. I don't know yet.

Right before that, this guy called wanting to check out a Chromebook via curbside service. He said Gemini told them we did, and that it was a 14-day check-out. So I asked Gemini myself, and this is what it said. Quite a bit of it is wrong.
Laptops and Chromebooks are 3-hr check-out items, and we do not allow people to leave the building with them.
We also haven't offered hotspots for a long time, since Trump cut the funding for the program.
It also has our hours wrong.

@smutmag@mstdn.social Another massive issue with that attitude is that AI as it's currently being used isn't even sustainable. It's mostly funded with corporate non-money that just keeps trading hands, and they're all losing money on it, and piling more in to try to get it to make money... It can't keep going. It's going to pop sooner or later, probably sooner.

Super fun that I still have to open up Outlook classic if I want to open a PST file.
Lawn is mowed. Weeds are whacked and pulled. Back patio is cleaned, but will need power washing in a few days.
I'm thinking Minecraft and laser cutting in a bit, and maybe some streaming on Owncast.

@trashcaster People have been telling me how much money there is to be made in IT for the last 30 years. The reality is a hell of a lot less glamorous, unless you're a CEO/executive/tech bro type.
There's also a time limit on your marketability. Once you get past 50 years old, your experience and credentials become meaningless and no one wants to touch you.

@dariana I'll share my experience, but I consider it mild compared to a lot of others.

Incredible fatigue. I might get a break for a few days, and then it's back. Even after a solid 8-9 hours of good sleep, I'll start crashing in the afternoon, and a nap has to happen at some point.

Brain fog. Ridiculous memory problems. It's embarrassing.

Heart palpitations. I've been checked out, it's okay, but quite annoying.
I'm on month four with no sign of letting up.
PC Tech: "About 10 minutes ago, it said there was 7 minutes left. Now, it says there are 13 minutes left. WTF?"
Me: "Those are Microsoft minutes. They don't work the same."

Last week, I set up an account at Gram.social. My first post was flagged and unlisted. It said an admin would review it and get back to me. No one ever did. So I sent a message via the contact form. Still nothing.
This morning, I opened an account at Pixelfed.de, and again my first post was flagged and unlisted. I get that might be standard practice for new users on some server, so I'm trying to be patient and sit tight for a few days to see if they get back to me.
This is frustrating.
