@mattly This might explain why the original aphorism bothered me. It's one thing to say "*don't assume* malice", and another to say "*never attribute* to malice". Why discourage people from using their best judgment? Maybe upon careful reflection I will decide it's malice after all.

@dan So, nobody's going to comment on what a cute little lizard/newt that is? I think it gives off axolotl vibes though obviously not an axolotl.

@ifixcoinops@retro.social Okay, it's official: "miter saw" is now my standard term for this kind of thing. 🙂 I feel like I have a lot more miter saws than you'd expect for someone of my age and background. But whatever.

Today I learned a new linguistic term: "shm-reduplication" or "schm-reduplication". If your reaction is "Linguistic, schminguistic, I just talk how I talk", I can't say I would disagree. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shm-reduplication

@bwebster@mastodon.social @schwa@mastodon.social @incanus@mastodon.social Another person here who uses Obsidian and Typora for those two use cases -- things that are "vault-like" vs. individual documents. Besides requiring things to be in a vault, Obsidian's editor drove me nuts out of the box. To this day I have no idea how people considered it usable. I've managed to make it usable with plugins, but lack of Mac-like Command-E/F/G still annoys me. And I switch to BBEdit when I need global search and replace.

@brentsimmons I agree, probably haunted. I've tried Alfred, and I'll probably try it again at some point because it's clearly an excellent product, but I keep coming back to Keyboard Maestro. Part of it is that I've invested a lot of time setting up what I called "double hotkeys" back in 2014. https://www.notesfromandy.com/2014/08/01/double-hotkeys-with-keyboard-maestro/

Double Hotkeys with Keyboard Maestro

When it comes to hotkeys, there are too few key combinations I'm comfortable with, and my memory is too weak, for me to assign a unique hotkey to each of the things I want to do quickly. Spotlight is great, … Continue reading →
