@idren@mstdn.ca Smoking causes blindness, considering their inability to see health issues arising from excessive cigarette use. Thus they can't read the packaging that identifies the country of origin. But yeah, USA tobacco also needs to be tariffed.

@LaChasseuse@mastodon.scot It's an important safety issue. Not only do those burn at 451 degrees but they also encourage subversive behaviour such as burning the oppressive system.

@AccordionBruce@mastodon.social @alfredocg@mastodon.social One or two processes seem to be using 1-2GB, but that could be due to the high resolution. Otherwise, the footprint seems similar to other browsers.

@Natasha_Jay The symbols seem to be the slowdown, simply from figuring them out. 1300 becomes the limit, being the start of non-standard spelling.

@sundogplanets@mastodon.social I picked up Kessler Cascade from Schlock Mercenary, specifically from a large number of mirror satellites orbiting earth in a ring, and used for advertising. They were also hijacked to point all their light at once place.

@gsuberland@chaos.social Also used to be 8 characters, and shouldn't be a word. (I think this was some truncation thing.) Now, the recommendation is split among those wanting to use a few words in a row because it's technically harder to brute force, and those who want your small password to have special characters (but not provide emoji support)

@Daojoan@mastodon.social Upper-class anti-vaxx is slightly different: accept vaccines privately, reject vaccines publicly. The lessers reject the vaccine, then get intubated.

@erictgilmour@mstdn.ca @drewharwell@mastodon.social It's popular because of early adoption, and important groups still using them. Also, people tend to be slow to react.

@nakdim @Em0nM4stodon Allegedly, using Gary's Mod subverts the age control, but I'm uncertain if it causes the company owner to think it's accepted as opposed to broken.

Replying to on mastodon.gamedev.place
@kenney@mastodon.gamedev.place Dos shareware games used to give a few screens on how to play, accessed by pressing F1. All disappeared in favor of slower onboarding sequences which appear once. Doom even did it single screen.

Replying to
@ajroach42@retro.social None, because all were adapted. MacBeth was a live action film, and Titus got anachronistic elements added. Romeo & Juliet doesn't count because it got shoehorned into modernity. Thus two proper Shakespeare's works were seen, but not as a play.

Replying to
@kuriko@wetdry.world Most of those options are data collection systems, and thus should be disliked especially due to leaks. If anything, it could be done at a store or point of sale by requiring an adult to buy the phone (and enabling protected mode if it's for someone young). Doesn't protect against having an adult authenticate, then passing it to a child, because those verification things look generic at first glance. The one I might like is the one in Leisure Suit Larry, if it weren't for it relying on now-stale trivia.

@LauraleeDukeshire@mstdn.ca @ianbetteridge@writing.exchange It also simultaneously breaks the game, in that it allows for a perpetual draw in some games. There's money going into the system, but not enough money sinks that take money away from the players. Example is the income tax, which caps out at $200, rather than allowing the 10% to go even higher.

@matt@oslo.town @steveroy@mstdn.ca Video game megabosses still tend to be defeatable, even Kerafyrm from EverQuest that didn't even have a death animation programmed in. Rather, it's like the board game Monopoly, where one player eventually has a hotel in each spot.

@monkeyslunch@mstdn.ca Too bad it's used with LLM—based AI, which photochemically places one just before it obliviously churns a predictable writing style. The contrail⸻length dash hasn't yet been claimed, a mark that can also be overissued, giving the same feeling as refraining from epinephrine. #gravy

@timbray@cosocial.ca I see a few "alt-text" bots if someone posts an image without alt-text. Saw an AI generated video, being presented as real, where snow magically disappeared when the cat turned its head (and wherethe background animal didn't react) And one sighting of AI simulating a B&W drawing, where one of the two characters had two tails. Nothing too significant for now.

@fribbledom@mastodon.social It felt easy most of the time. If a program needed 640K, I could skip most of the startup. For protected mode, I could skip everything, just load the mouse driver, and it ran well. It became harder with later computers, simply because the Bios was starting to become larger, but by then Dos was starting to be replaced.

@mcnado@mstdn.social The real cure was announced in April 2020. It brings ultraviolet light inside the body, which should handle the virus more quickly than the release of the Epistein files. As a backup, there are disinfectants such as bleach that can also go inside the body, maybe as an injection or something like that. /s Be sure to pray to the new golden calf statue once it works.
