Ordered myself an overpriced breakfast sandwich. As a little bribe for coping with reality.
The Trump administration just started giving away 93 MILLION ACRES of YOUR children’s and grandchildren’s lands. Once they’re gone, they’re gone forever. Logged. Mined. Paved. Gone. No more hunting, fishing, hiking, camping or biking. Sold off to billionaires. Stripped of beauty and value. If a nation doesn’t maintain its natural heritage and beauty wtf is the point of a country?
I am so angry and fucking exhausted from their endless greed and evil and stupidity. This is a country in free fall. Some things can’t be undone once they’re lost. https://morethanjustparks.substack.com/p/breaking-trump-administration-orders?utm_medium=email&triedRedirect=true
Budget item for ICE to get smart glasses. No shock there. They’re building a database of everyone, obviously, for the purposes of widespread government surveillance.
For every “yeah I guess that’s neat” use for smart glasses I’ve ever heard there’s a squadron of creepy abusive patriarchy control and abuse use cases. Guess which ones the people in power are going to fund.
A good list at the end of companies still making good products, including Detroit’s own Carhartt @ebooksyearn@thepit.social
I am begging you to stop using LLMs to summarize info for you if you might need to understand it. People are cranking out notes fast but grasping less and less of the concepts and this is both sad AND makes my life harder so I’m cranky.
Bad news: It’s 10pm
Good News: I unfucked this design significantly
Thank goodness my insurance company charges me a co pay to make sure my lack of a thyroid isn’t killing me, or I might not have “skin in the game” and just willy nilly monitor that unnecessarily. For fun. Taking advantage of the system and staying alive.
This system is stupid.
This particular type of generated content is pointedly noxious - it exists entirely to trick people into believing a lie for attention. Not as a statement or commentary, but entirely as a capitalistic scheme to get clicks and therefore money. Thats not art - it’s a scam that robs photographers who ARE doing the work of blending real skill with the kismet they find in nature to bring awareness to how special this planet is. I hate it. @CiaraNi@mastodon.green
Remember when people just tried to put accurate information up on the web instead of smashing the Big Auto Correct button hoping for real info?
How’s this better than a few pages of info and search engines? How much did it cost financially and environmentally? Why is everything stupid?

Friends did my dishes while I was working before I drove them to the airport. 😭
I installed a frivolous astrology app as kind of a way to have a short contained phone interaction for amusement that has a finite engagement per day. Replace scrolling.
All fun and games until it just says the most insecurity jabbing shit two days in a row. wtf. I don’t dabble in the frivolous occult to spiral. I can do that myself.
By Thursday it always looks like a raccoon has been living on my desk.
When someone tells you who they are by naming their company this, you should believe them. @angusm@mastodon.social
There’s some software dev/ Moriarty Sherlock “death by waterfall” joke here in my head but I can’t find it. You get the theme.
My mental health is hanging on by the thread of concert tickets I have lined up and the possible National Park trip in the fall. @nolan@toot.cafe
Just realized “Final Fantasy” is like “Final.PSD”

I suggest people who want to sell off public lands go fuck themselves instead of cashing out one of the greatest legacies of this country. A heritage we borrow from future generations. A thing we did RIGHT. @georgetakei@universeodon.com
“Amandeep Jutla, an associate research scientist at Columbia University studying the impact of AI chatbots, believes that one of the main reasons for users to spiral is the “anthropomorphic nature of the interface”. He adds that, unlike human conversations, which feature pushback and different perspectives tugging at each other, a user doesn’t receive any pushback during their conversations with chatbots: “The design of the product is pushing you away from reality. It’s pushing you away from other people,” he said. “The friction with other people is what keeps us grounded.”
Thank god I’m watching this video on how to not compromise a company phone that I don’t actually have.
Look closely at the second half of the article. What it says about process and human judgement and the metrics and assumptions we measure with. This isn’t really about AI. It’s about accountability and system design and power.
My brain is jumping up and down at all the YES. THIS. @patrickhadfield@mastodon.scot
“Judgment is politically vulnerable. Rules are not. The procedure exists to make discretion disappear, or seem to. The system’s actual flexibility lives entirely in this unacknowledged interpretive work, which means it can be removed by anyone who mistakes it for inefficiency.”

Without unpacking all that’s going on here - and there’s a lot but this isn’t Reddit - I found this to be a great little piece of narrative. @VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social
Sigh. It’s another “just bring me a sandwich because I’m busy and there’s nothing to make fast” day.
Essential music is a fantastic program and a big part of why I donate monthly to WDET. @mistergenest@c.im
Stress and overstimulation migraine since yesterday.
I’m afraid to go look at my calendar right now and find meetings

Lilly of the valley is pretty but I wish it hadn’t been planted in MY yard. Have to constantly keep it in check
