I remember a time before videogames. I remember hearing Space Invaders for the first time, a sound that I will take with me to my grave. I remember when Pac Man was this strange new thing that demanded to be played. I remember putting my 10p on the monitor glass to reserve my first go on Defender, and then squandering it in 15 glorious seconds. I remember lusting after the ranks of home computers in my local Boots the Chemist. I have grown old with videogames, and they have grown up with me.

@selzero I think I've seen this before with the caption "even hideo kojima would think this is a bit far fetched"

@gilesgoat@toot.wales @Mafalda@toot.wales @llamasoft_ox@toot.wales it's a confirmation bias generator - a "friend" who only tells you how good and clever you are
I had someone telling me in all seriousness that he had a theory that there could be "a number bigger than infinity" and chatgpt told him he was right. Couldn't be shaken from it

@nixCraft@mastodon.social His whole website is a delight - I'm especially fond of https://www-cs-faculty.stanford.edu/~knuth/diamondsigns/diam.html

@IanMoore3000 @ScottEdelman Could be these two from August 1977?
I can't really make out the dialog - and her hair isn't right, but he's in the right ballpark

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt I strongly suspect that the AI bubble won't burst until a large company (microsoft/apple/amazon level) leans a bit too heavily into it and we see a late 80s IBM style collapse because of it.
I also think that will happen sooner rather than later

@IanMoore3000 @ScottEdelman the lettering is very similar to this story from Mates July 1978, which fits the timeline, so I'd probably start there

Really positive response to the soft launch of this today. Waiting on the arrival of a bunch of flash carts in the week and then it'll be all systems go

@gilesgoat@toot.wales @Mafalda@toot.wales @llamasoft_ox@toot.wales exactly that, it's a set theory. And I know that there are all sorts of weird edge cases in infinity theory, but he was talking about the classic start counting at 1 and keep going up concept
But he'd been told so many times by chatgpt that he was correct that he couldn't be moved

@IanMoore3000 @ScottEdelman Annoyingly, because of the way it scans, my brain has got stuck on "Magic Moments" and it's definitely not that

@geoffl @IanMoore3000 @ScottEdelman and the speech bubbles are a different style. Could be the same artist though?

@KevinFlynn @ScottEdelman I'm almost 100% sure it is from Mates - those fonts match up exactly with the ones I have as reference in A Very British Affair

@KevinFlynn @ScottEdelman yeah, i had a trawl earlier (further down the thread) - couldn't find an exact match but some very close - slightly surprised by how much they're going for to be honest

@craiggrannell@mastodon.social I hated that build. The end model is fine, but the build itself was horrid

@craiggrannell@mastodon.social I just found it too fiddly with none of the surprise and delight that the best sets have. It's clever, no doubt, but just wasn't for me - was glad when it was over
