recently in #fedora qa: lots of needle updates and minor test tweaks for GNOME 51 and anaconda changes: https://forge.fedoraproject.org/quality/os-autoinst-distri-fedora/commits/branch/main

sorry, no exhaustive breakdown, it's been too long (I was out for a lot of friday, monday was a public holiday, and I've had some family medical stuff to deal with today). but that's mostly what I've been doing!

today in "random good news":

today's #fedora #rawhide and branched (F44) composes were both perfect (no failed artifact builds at all) and each took less than 90 minutes. that includes producing over 100 (114, for Rawhide) images.

I remember when composes failed all the time, individual images failed all the time, and composes took up to 8 hours, so this is pretty cool!

great job everybody!

help me, German, I need a loan word: that feeling you get when you open a new firefox tab and type a URL snippet to open a page, but while it's open you briefly see a junk story you secretly want to read, so you open a new tab again but the junk story list has changed and the one you hated yourself for wanting to read is gone, and now you feel both frustrated and guilty

@jmm @LabanSkoller @alexanderkjall yeah, it's definitely not been handled optimally. on the RH side, Fedora happens to be OK as the fix landed upstream in 6.19.12 and that already went stable, but RHEL (and hence CentOS and probably Alma and Rocky) are affected with no day-0 update - https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/cve-2026-31431 .

@Ciantic@twit.social it does seem to be an issue in rawhide's gdb, yeah. I ran into it the other day. downgrading to an older gdb should 'fix' it. the slop might be right, not sure. will check it today.

Replying to
@hyc@mastodon.social @Edent@mastodon.social what makes Make "plain" and cmake or ninja "flavor of the month", aside from your familiarity bias? If you are starting software development from scratch, ninja or meson or cmake can make a lot more sense to you than gnu make. cmake has existed since 2000 (and been used by e.g. kde since 2006), ninja has existed since 2012 - that's 13 years - and meson has existed since 2013; meson/ninja are used for such minor projects as GNOME and Chrome. perhaps rethink your "month" definition.

@postmodern you want the f43 branch of the fedora-kickstarts repo. the kickstarts are there. for f44+ security is built with kiwi, though. livecd-creator has not been used for any official images for many years. before kiwi, livemedia-creator was used. https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/creating-and-using-a-live-installation-image/#proc_creating-and-using-live-cd should be more or less correct instructions.

@hughsie@mastodon.social @coderabbitai@mastodon.social old coderabbit repo, now archived: https://github.com/coderabbitai/ai-pr-reviewer . you can rewind a few commits to get rid of the 'closing up shop' ones and see what it looked like. I don't know if there are any actively-developed F/OSS forks.

@vathpela@infosec.exchange sure, I have no idea about Boston-area specifics, was just noting that "luxury studios" are absolutely a real thing and they're not great for housing affordability. I've no idea whether these are those, though.

@Fishd @patnat Because it's not safe. Traditional package updates are inherently unsafe operations, but the more Other Stuff is running on the system when they run, the less safe they are. The safest thing is to have as little Other Stuff running as possible when doing the update, hence the offline update default. Desktops are especially prone to crashing in the middle of the update and taking it with them. Online updating is always possible, but we default to the safest available choice.

@vathpela@infosec.exchange eh, I know what they mean. It's a small unit with high-end finishes and nice appliances, intended to be bought and rented out as an airbnb. Vancouver was stuffed with them from 2012-2022 (approx). Something like https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/30231612/116-5212-cambie-street-vancouver . Definite real estate boom stuff.
