mastodon 4.7.3Developer. This is my main account for the time being. I have six profiles now on Mastodon, sigh.
I will remove followers who haven't posted anything.
Updating to Fedora 44 was suprsingly smooth.
It didn't even try to sell me a subscription to One Drive or Office as I restarted!
Why is Google Gemini kind of useless? Only time I really want it to work is when I drive a car.
"Start driving directions to airport, add detour to gas station X, then start playing podcast X."
Should be simple to do, I probably could slop that togehter if I had KDE/PC desktop mounted to car.
Ever since I switched my desktop to Linux, I haven't really worried about node_modules. With Windows they used to cause problems with various background services and what not, it hasn't been an issue.
I did have to disable KDE's file indexing, because it was just as bad as other file indexing software, getting stuck for hours dbus-monitor showed constant activity stuck in loop... But I don't really need file indexing as ripgrep works for most occasions.
With a notable vulnerabilities found lately one could assume closed source is safer. It is not, source code of lot of closed source software has leaked many times. Those holding the leaked closed source code will weaponize...
Whereas open-source code, by having a lot more eyeballs, and tokens, gets fixed.
NodeJS/Bun/Deno all kind of suck with parallel workloads. I tried to write a simple http stress tester. They all start to fail in weird ways. And the code is hard to read (because of workers, message passing etc).
Of course right answer was Rust, it basically is single 90 line main.rs file, that is readable as well.
What is the year Firefox and Google Chrome support WebGPU in Linux?
Android TV's are pain of the existence. They are so slow, that even old people don't know how to use them.
Problem is that if you click a button, uninitiated people think it is broken, because nothing happens. Then during this pause, some folks just keep clicking buttons and end up to menus etc, and are totally lost!
"The 7.0.9-102/202 stable kernel builds contain additional mitigations for new code paths in fragnesia, and a couple of other security updates without fancy names or CVEs assigned yet. "
Keep on patching, even though they don't have yet fancy names!
Why does every bad day start with Github Actions something something, compromised?
Steam Controller already sold out, it is almost like Valve is running crowd funding launch.
Anthropic released Claude Desktop and it seems to be vibed and full of quirks.

Shipping UI used to be sanding down each part you create as you go, but now that LLMs can push so much code at once, nobody bothers to click all buttons, drag all draggables, ...
You can use these more gradually to get polished output, but no, they chose not to.
Default file association is really flaky in my #KDE setup. Maybe because I installed Fedora 43 (the GNOME version), and then added KDE on top of it.
If I double click images in Dolphin, sometimes it opens gimp, but today it opens Gradia. Sometimes if I use "Open containing folder" in VSCode it opens Dolphin sometimes Nautilus.
Kind of like z-fighting.
EGUI's rendering has very nifty trick with the scheduled frames. Your widget can request render for example 500ms from now. Like the text cursor in a text field.
It doesn't make a queue of requests, but keep only the next time it needs to render in memory. Suppose I render something 2ms from now, then the text widget will request render in 498ms from now. On every tick each widget schedules the next one, but latest only counts.
#ImGui doesn't have this, and I wish it did!
@schwa@mastodon.social I haven't tested RPC mode, as my things work via node/deno. However, as I quickly skimmed it, it seems to also not have an easy way to override the system prompt without an extension.
One of the first I did (as I used pi cli tool) was to write a command /.set so I can override the system prompt. Default system prompt has a lot of urls to pi-coding-agent and it's behavior, it is not meant to be used as is.
For me this gave a boring result, because after all that picking, I chose Fira Code, which I've happened to use for several years already!
I must have some highly in-built way to prefer that then.
Someone is vibe-porting TypeScript compiler to Rust, it is already faster than Go version. https://tsz.dev/
Wakeup and suspend has worked really well this year. Today got first issue. Network stopped working after wakeup.
I have always stored the journalctl log for each of the issues, today DeepSeek v4 Pro came up a reason of some sort. For todays issue at least.
DeepSeek V4 PRO saying network driver becomes fragmented after multiple wakeups?
Who knows!
Google Chrome in Linux reliably crashes to me when zooming in and out Ventusky's view. It has happened ever since I owned AMD RX 9070 XT, ~7 months.
Some of these days I will figure out how to report this bug!
I haven't yet ported my Lorem Ipsum generator from AutoHotkey to Linux. Now I'm googling lorem ipsum and shocked, absolutely shocked, how bad these lorem ipsum examples are!
I've clicked at least five open each one of them fail. I just want to copy paste multiple paragraphs, not headers, not same pargraph repeated, not history of them.
I just want to celebrate how well #KDE fixes bugs. This would never happen in Windows.
I reported a bug where Virtual Desktop name didn't update from overview textbox, they fixed it incorrectly briefly. I mentioned it, and right away it got fixed correctly.
I might have opinion on this spaghetti of C++ what KWIN is as Rustacean, but it works.
Geez, I'm annoyed. I bought new phone Realme GT 8 PRO, but it uploads images to Google Photos in some potato quality, even though Google Photos think they are in original.
Opened a Reddit post:

`retry` is simple cli tool I wish all distributions would come with. It simply retries a program, with flags such as timeout, until etc.
Fedora seems to have it in package repository, but I found out I need it in Docker/Podman files mostly, and not that many seemed to bundle it.
My very rough test shows that Rust hyper can achieve ~119k requests per second, but vinyl cache formerly known as Varnish with 1s cache on front of a same URL can reach 96k requests per second.

I made a thing, and documented how to make unfied type mapping for PGLite and PG (and postgres) https://github.com/Ciantic/pg-unified-mapping/tree/main
It is very rocky road! Timestamps, dates are *totally* broken by default, arrays are flaky.
If you ever use PGLite for unit tests you need to unify the mappings so that tests and runtime doesn't differ.
This is pretty interesting crate, it aims to provide Atomic struct, and example is what I would use it too, app state.
Although I would like to have signals as well.
JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem has a huge problem with database connectors and typing.
Is Bigserial bigint, string or number? Is string "2026-04-13" allowed to `Date` field? How about should the `timestamptz` return +03 or UTC result? Your guess is as good as mine, and each version seems to have whole new ideas.
Duckdb and SQLite adapters seems to be most flakiest.
Postgres is most stable.
I figured best way to detect I'm connected to home network in Android WorkManager API is to query IP address. If it begins with 192.168.8.X I am home.
I know you probably shouldn't do things that are untrusted anyhow, but it doesn't need location permissions (SSID check requires those).
'enterprise grade' PostgreJS (client library) for NPM, has very difficult type mapping setup.
I've tried Codex, DeepSeek v4 Pro, and none of them find a good way to do what I want. Probably because it uses some binary format as default which other client libraries didn't even bother.
@schwa@mastodon.social Yeah it is pretty good. Some weird mutation interfaces in the API, that might then report back wrong data if you don't know what it did. But I really like it nontheless.
Here is the madness, mapped.
https://github.com/Ciantic/pg-unified-mapping/blob/main/DEFAULT-MADNESS.md
AI vampire lifestyle can be exhausting. I even thought what if I could program from phone when traveling, because it would be pretty easy to setup, but I'd rather not. Rest is good.
Tried to update to Fedora 44, at 99.999% (there is no percentages, but the litle bar was at the end) it gave me error about NodeJS... because unwisely I had used `sudo alternatives`. Now the KDE Discover doesn't show update option anymore.
I hope I didn't hose myself. Will try to restart, remove nodejs alternative.
