Teacher interested in #oralhistory, #disabilitystudies, #digitalhumanities and #openknowledge.
I've been using #orgmode for quite a while, and I genuinely like it. It has become part of my daily workflow.
But I feel like I've hit a plateau... I mostly use the basic features, and whenever I look at everything Org can do, it feels a bit overwhelming.
For those of you who went beyond the basics: how did you learn orgmode? Books, blogs, videos, other people's configs, or just years of trial and error? What helped you level up?
Looking to follow more people/accounts working on disability studies, disability history, crip theory, disability justice, DisCrit, etc
Who are your favourite follows on Mastodon? Academic, activist, archival, personal, all welcome.

Not diagnosing a kid doesn’t mean they won’t notice they’re different, it just means they’ll think they’re struggling because they’re stupid or broken, not because their brain works differently.
Where do people listen to #fieldrecording albums?
There seems to be surprisingly little on Spotify, and not that much on Internet Archive either. Any good platforms, labels, archives, or repositories?
Does anyone here use, own, or follow the development of an open-source/open-hardware e-reader?
I'm curious about alternatives to Kindle/Kobo, but ideally something that doesn't cost €500+... 😁
Any recommendations, experiences, or projects worth looking into? #opensource #ereader #linux #foss #openhardware #epub #epublishing
Whenever I find a list of banned books, I immediately want to read all of them.
Censors keep creating some of the most tempting reading lists imaginable.
Genuine question: what are people using as an alternative to #Linkedin?
My work sits somewhere between teaching, academia, digital humanities, educational projects, oral history, accessibility, and open-web/community work... and LinkedIn increasingly feels kind of... "incompatible" with that ecosystem.
Curious what others are using instead.

I'm sketching a small #project: a collaborative #diy #zine about #shame, #mentalhealth, personal expression, and the politics of everyday feelings.
The idea is to collect short anonymous/pseudonymous fragments, notes, drawings, memories, lists, etc, and publish them both online and as small printable zine issues.
Does this sound useful, problematic, interesting? Any thoughts, warnings, references, similar projects, or practical advice?
If the #EU is serious about #digitalsovereignty and #privacy, #Mastodon is a meaningful step, but also a delicate one.
Supporting the #fediverse shouldn’t mean centralising it, capturing it, or over-regulating it. The real challenge is to fund capacity, standards, and sustainability without undermining #decentralization, pluralism, or community governance.

Just wondering... Do people still use #rss? Do you have a #rssreader you rely on, or has RSS become a relic of the past?
And if so, what's your setup?
If you think a #neurodivergent student "has improved", it's usually #masking (costly, exhausting, unsustainable) or the result of a classroom that finally reduced stress.
One is harmful, the other is support. Only one should be our goal.

A colleague gave me an old Macbook Pro 9.2, which was too slow even to open Safari or read emails...
After upgrading the ram from 4 to 16gb, changing the old HDD for a new SSD, installing #Fedora... I made a Zoom call while I had 20 tabs open on Firefox, with Nextcloud, Thunderbird, Telegram and Emacs open in the background.
But the thing that amazed me was the strange sense of #empowerment (?) I felt during the process.
Working on a small oral history project:
The idea is simple: preserve and share audio testimonies by people who stutter, with transcripts, metadata, #accessibility in mind, and a minimal/open-web approach.
I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from people interested in #oralhistory, #history, #disability, #disabilityStudies, #disabilityhistory, #archives, #diversity, #digitalhumanities or #stuttering.

#HBO #Chernobyl draws heavily on Svetlana Alexievich's #oralhistory book Voices from Chernobyl.
That's exactly why oral #history matters: it preserves how events are experienced, not just how they're later reduced to "what happened". #Testimony keeps the human truth in the record.

Does anyone here know how the process works in #france to get assessed/diagnosed for neurodivergence (ADHD, autism, etc.) as an adult? Public system vs private? Waiting times? Costs?
Any experiences or advice would be highly appreciated.

One of the most beautiful moments of liberation in my life was when I started to give myself permission not to finish books that I was not interested in or liked.
I wonder where that sort of moral imperative came from that urged me to continue and made me feel guilty if I didn't... school, education, myself?
Do thematic historical maps based on OpenStreetMap exist that can be explored with GPS?
For example: maps of Holocaust sites, colonial history, etc.
I'd be especially interested in projects that work well on mobile/offline while walking around cities.

What’s the #Fediverse take on #anonimity in #socialmedia?
Is it better to stay #anonymous, or to use your real name and #identity?
Curious how others navigate this.

I'm thinking of restarting my #podcast for learning #italian, and I'm trying to figure out how to make it sustainable without turning it into something I don't want it to be.
It did better than I expected. I never used #ads because I really dislike the whole advertising model. At the time, #patreon helped fund transcript access.
Now I've relaunched a website and made all transcripts freely available.
I'd like to bind A4 printouts in blocks of about 100/200 pages, without buying a binding machine.
Plan: 4-hole punch + cardstock covers + Chicago screws / binding screws, maybe with washers.
Has anyone tried this for readers, course packs, or zines?
Any practical advice welcome.
