I also had the super power of lacking this mental model for physical phenomena. I excelled in abstract things like electric fields, quantum mechanics, but struggled with regular ol’ mechanics.

@kristinHenry@vis.social I’m with you on the covered part being hard to confirm from afar, especially knowing whether it’s covered as in an umbrella, or as in a roof. I ended up either walking by places or calling them other times I was there. This time (last week), the one evening it rained, I ended up ordering food for pickup from the restaurant at my hotel and eating it in my room. Felt like I wimped out, but was tired from a long work day and it takes energy to search for places.

@monkeyninja@10base2.dev Our TV is 16 years old. It’s possible that internet connected TVs were a thing in 2010, but ours is not one of them. We barely use it anymore, maybe that means it will last 16 more years.
Rainy day here + I saw there’s a clothing swap next weekend at the Newport Rec Center = finally motivated to clean out my closet. I don’t need any clothing in the swap, but will donate things that I clearly don’t wear. Everything came out, got evaluated, shelves cleaned, and donations getting laundered. #newportoregon

@ingalls@mstdn.ca Apparently, tavern style is what the locals really eat. Not sure when that changed. When I lived there in the 90’s, both the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times had yearly “best pizza” lists that contained at least a hundred places, all deep dish or stuffed pizza.
Two things it took conscious thought to do - realized I could afford the time to actually have a beer at Harpoon if I got a Lyft back to my hotel vs walking back (Harpoon doesn’t open til noon and I had time constraints). Funny it didn’t occur to me at first that I could do anything but walk back. And I actually had a beer indoors unmasked. Rare for me to do that, but Covid levels are at 5 year lows and the beer hall was tall and airy and uncrowded, having just opened.

@cstross@wandering.shop Also, there’s something about enjoying a thing more if it took work to create. Those mix tapes were fun. In college, a huge music collector friend in the dorms made two of us a mix tape that we used to teach aerobics in the free class at the campus cafe. I still miss that mix tape.
