i sometimes make doodles, drawings, and sprite animations
a bit nerd with tech and (mostly) linux specifically ((but doesnt understand half of it))
a bit shy/introvert, but can get very talkative sometimes, depending on the topic and/or how comfortable i feel with who i'm talking with
if i unfollow you, it's not personal and you likely didn't do anything i dislike, i just prefer keeping the amount of followed people small to avoid getting too distracted

depends on the country and depends on the bank. my bank doesnt have a web interface; the log in button on their website just gives you a QR code to download the app

@SpaceCheeseWizard@woof.tech for FOSS specifically, i dont know
for AI, duckduckgo removes all the AI if you use the url https://noai.duckduckgo.com/
ecosia also removes the AI summaries and the chatbot if you disable it in settings

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu oooohhh so thats what that symbol means
i always thought it was meant to go near the price tag, as in "this thing can be bought with cents or euros" so it always confused me what the point of it was
what it actually means is much cooler though

@catpunk@piperco.global there's been a flickering light on a business's logo thing near here for years
i dont understand why they dont either disable it or remove the lights, but it's been flickering all nights for well over a decade now

librewolf/firefox question, :boosts_ok:
@kemona_halftau@sharkey.skydevs.me im on kde, and since an update on librewolf a few months ago, it uses kde's file picker instead of gnome's, and i didnt change anything in about:config
maybe reinstalling or deleting all its user profile data would help?
also, if you are using the flatpak, that might also be the cause, probably. I use the debian package and it's fine here

helo creatures of fedi, i got a small question about self-hosting
i want to self-host a small minecraft server with minigames made by me on my old laptop, so that i can play with some friends. it works, but the way i join it right now is typing the local ip address (the server and the pc are on the same wifi). public ip doesnt work, and after some reading online it seems that i need to open a port in the router. i have not tried this yet, but i assume that should be enough
but here's the thing; i dont feel comfortable sending them the ip address of my home just to play my half-functional minecraft minigames. is there a way to point them to something else so that they can join without doxxing myself? would a free vpn or similar be enough?
thanks in advance!

fascinating levels of security your infrastructure got for passwords; encryption, hashed, etc.
it would be a shame if the user were to accidentally write the password in the username field

@paco@infosec.exchange "keyboard is obviously better so no wonder the percentage of people who voted on it so far is... huh? only 2%?"
my opinion is:
-mouse: no true wireless, as it's still gonna take a USB port (at least all wireless mouses i've found do). Not to mention that if the input delay gets bad enough it seems like something that'd be basically unusable
on a keyboard, delay only means that the text you typed takes a bit longer to show up on screen, so not an issue under the case scenarios where i'd prefer wireless over wired
-headphones: i dont feel comfortable having batteries so close to my ears :blobfoxgooglyholdingitsheadinitshands:

so anyway, it doesn't fit
but the connector just barely reaches the motherboard, so it works, even if it has a little bit of the case outside the laptop
i tested it by putting a the 1993 mario movie and VLC was able to read it

the crazy idea was a failure
the free port where i thought the wifi card might fit is actually slightly wider than the wifi card. and of course every other remaining port was also different from what the wifi card uses
and then i thought about using it to upgrade the wifi chipset of the netbook with that (the laptop where that thing comes from is faulty in quite a few ways, so this would be more productive if it worked than putting it back in its original laptop), but that doesnt have the correct port, neither. the wifi chipset of the netbook goes in a wider port, which i think it's an M.2. port or something similar?
either ways, this experiment was a failure
on the bright side, opening up my pc made me find out that it had a lot of dust. i dont have the tools nor the knowledge to properly clean it up, so i cleaned what i could with paper towels and -specifically for the cpu fan because the gaps are too small- a thin screwdriver (dont worry, i was careful and i didnt break anything). There was a lot of dust i couldnt remove, mostly half of the dust of the cpu fan, but i removed enough to the point that the things that would usually make the cpu fan go loud now go quite a bit less loud, so thats nice

cool that nintendo ported the switch 2's eshop to the switch 1 and now it runs better (at the cost of fps, but on there i'd prefer performance over fps, so fair enough)
but... did they really have to get rid of the loading jingle??
cant believe they would remove the small remaints of life and fun the switch's OS had with whats likely the last system update that adds or changes anything

the only downsides are:
- it doesnt look as slim
- probably less portable (battery was removed anyway, so not a big deal lol)
- the position of the screws dont exactly match, so i can potentially slide it out without force (the space is slim enough that it is pretty well secured in place as long as the laptop isnt being moved around though. seems to be perfectly fine on a table. Think of it like an SD card reader that doesn't have a spring mechanism to pull in and out the card)
but functionality seems perfect so im satisfied ![]()

@FirefoxOfficial@mastodon.social can you delete your twitter/x account pls?
that place is ran by a guy who spent a lot of money to buy it just so that he can influence his fascist ideas on people there. the only way to get people out of a horrible place like that is not having anything to follow there, so by staying there you would be encouraging facism, even if it is not your intention
by pointing people to a fedi account like your mastodon account as the only option instead, more people would come here and learn about the open internet, escaping the addictive designs of corporate social media in general, and the fascist stuff from twitter in specific
if you are concerned about visibility; listen to your users, apply feedback to the browser (the AI killswitch being added being a good example of this), and then passionate people will recommend it to other via word of mouth; look at linux. Linux is getting many many more users, but the distros spent no time, effort, nor money on advertising; they are just being recommended by people who love to use it
you dont need twitter to get more users

but other than that, there are physical places with people i can go to

@windchaser@woof.tech if you are fine with firefox-based browsers, librewolf is pretty good (though, the default settings might be a little too aggressive for some, so you would probably need to take a look in there and re-enable some things if you need them)
normal firefox is good too
if you strictly need a chromium-based browser that supports manifest v2, i only know of brave, which i do not recommend
