@mcnado@mstdn.social Considering that at least 10% of Gen Alpha identify as trans or non-binary and the actual number of trans and non-binary people is likely even higher because there is heavy suppression, you probably know quite a few trans and non-binary people but they have not disclosed that to you or in general... A statement such as "nobody in my family is" is quite jarring. Statistically there must be trans and/or non-binary people in your family. Sadly though, they apparently don't feel safe enough to come out, or they've been sufficiently indoctrinated that they don't even realize that they're trans... As I had during the first 40+ years of my life before realizing that I'm non-binary...

@yassie_j@transfem.social As a fellow neurodivergent entity (AuDHD), I must respectfully disagree here. I drive a lot, especially for Dutch standards, maybe even for American standards, currently around 1000km (620mi). I do not use my phone while driving, it is on silent mode tucked into my handbag, or face down in the spot in the center console intended for placing ones mobile phone. Whenever I see someone swerving or, unfortunately quite regularly almost rear-ending another vehicle, I usually see they're on their phone. While the vehicle is in motion, even if it's very slowly, even a second of inattention can lead to an accident. So I emplore anyone, please do not use your phone while driving. Listen to podcasts instead? That's what I do. It provides the necessary neural stimulation while keeping my eyes on the road.

@alyeska@tech.lgbt Hi, I'm a Dutch non-binary person "with an X". Indeed it's nice to have that extra weight to force companies and institutions towards accepting and respecting non-binary folks. But progress is slow. If you get the X, be ready to be a pioneer venturing out into hostile territory, actively improving things for non-binary people who come after you. For example, I'm now on a lengthy process with the National Ombudsman to hopefully ensure that the police don't misgender non-binary and trans people in official police reports. Someone else I know is in proceedings to make sure insurance company FBTO respect non-binary people. There is still a lot to do and you will be at the forefront. By the way there's a nice Discord for people who have or want "an X" called Project X. I can pass you the link in DM if you want. There's also an event organized by TransAnders/TransVisie on Saturday 18 April especially for people who want an X or want to inform themselves better about that, with people who already have the X (including myself) and Kim Smienk, the lawyer who has represented the majority of Dutch people who got an X, answering any questions you might have. I can DM you further details of you're interested. Oh and the travel thing? Countries I can't enter with my X like the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the US and possibly even tbe UK, I wouldn't want to visit anyway.

I mean, while you are staring at the phone, how are you going to react to a danger coming from your left? As a driver, it is not only your job to not cause an accident, it is also your job to actively avoid accidents caused by others. In my, granted, not very humble opinion, your proposal is simply irresponsible.

A few years ago he happily made TV shows with his good friend JKR and verbally mistreated and blocked (trans) people who called him out for that on Mastodon. Recently, he voiced his support for trans rights and trans people in an interview. When exactly he pivoted is unknown and I have yet to see any apologies or reparations for the harm he caused during his TERF phase.

Tolerantie gaat namelijk nog steeds uit van een machtsongelijkheid, van een systeem van onderdrukking: de groep met meer macht tolereert de ander met minder macht. Tolerantie is ook inherent voorwaardelijk: anderen worden getolereerd zolang men er niet teveel last van heeft. In een daadwerkelijk gelijkwaardige wereld is tolerantie niet nodig want minderheden worden niet alleen getolereerd, zij zijn gelijkwaardig, zij praten en beslissen mee op gelijke voet met de meerderheid. Tolerantie kan me gestolen worden. Als trans nonbinair persoon, als Romani, als autist, eis ik de gelijkwaardigheid die de grondwet mij belooft.

I use Proton Pass privately, 1Password provided by my employer for work, and KeePass for the volunteer work I do - database stored on that organization's Nextcloud instance. So that's several password managers too but each for specific purposes that hardly ever overlap.

Migration is a biological/ecological term; it is something Homo sapiens as a species has evolved to be good at, one might even argue that it's human nature; it describes the usually gradual movement of large groups of individuals across the globe. Immigration otoh is a legal/sociological term, it is when a person moves to an area where other people with a different culture already live; it describes the movement of individual people across the globe. Pretty much all white people in the US descend from people who individually made the choice to move to America, which fits much more readily my interpretation of immigration than that of migration. Indigenous Americans on the other hand descend from people who migrated there.
