My kid (11) wrote a little #Mausritter Hexcrawl and now he takes the Mausritter Box (which already looks battered af) to school everyday. After a pretty rough start at the new school, he bonded with some kids over Mausritter and they play the game during the big lunchtime break … or more probably a 11-years-old-kid’s murder hobo variant of Mausritter 🥲

There is already good examples for thoroughly researched folklore-inspired adventures/settings: Beyond the Pale (Yochai Gal), Where the Wheat Grows Tall (10d10 Toads) to mention only two. We love these things 😍 OSR games and folk tales are a good match IMO since they lean more into problem solving and less into strings of combat encounters and killing things (5e, Pathfinder)
Ran a session of #TheHallsOfArdenVul at our #osr open table yesterday.
What I exspected: laid back „door dnd“ type of exploration of level 3 of the Arden Vul #Megadungeon
What I ended up with: PCs spontaneously launching a badass retaliation campaign against a much hated gang of halfling extortionists which included backstabbing and hauling a fireball across a subterranean chasm.

Schöne #OSR Open Table-Magic, heute. Normalerweise spielen wir online, heute sind vier Mitspieler aus dem Rhein-Main-Gebiet zum „OSR Brunch“ bei mir zuhause vorbeigeschneit. Der #Valravn Open Table hat über einen Austausch auf Mastodon Gestalt angekommen und mittlerweile durfte ich schon viele Valravniks pers. treffen ♥️ Heute dann #ArdenVul Megadungeon an frischen Brötchen, Oliven und Mozarellatörtchen… BesteHobby

Late 80s: Older brother of a friend from school introduced us to #Midgard2E my brain: 🤯 Then started to play DSA as a 13-years-old, soon #Adnd2e came along, saving our souls. My English grades improved thanks to 2nd Ed bloat. Played a lot of #Gurps in the 90s. Fell out of the hobby for 8-10 years - always missing it. Re-entered the hobby through Gurps, Pathfinder, 5e. Discovered the #osr & Storygames ten years ago. My brain: 🤯 - never looking back. Found my home, ttrpg-wise

Für 30-120 Minuten slots würde ich vmtl. auf #Cairn oder ein anderes Spiel aus der #IntoTheOdd Linie zurückgreifen, um keine Zeit mit Spielregelerkläre zu verlieren. Dann würde ich einen kompakten Abenteuerschauplatz bespielen. „Ziel“ wäre dann: die newbies verstehen, was ein Rollenspiel ist und können ohne Frontloading mit tactical infinity vertraut gemacht werden („Ich kann alles machen?“). Ein klar defilierter Schauplatz hilft dann bei der Orientierung. 1/3

Wie würdet ihr eure Rollenspiel - „Biografie“ in einem Post beschreiben. Nicht nur Origin Story (als Hobby-Kultist*innen lieben wir natürlich Initiationsgeschichten), sondern auch wichtige Stationen, Brüche und Veränderungen.
#ttrpg people - are you currently playing or running your favorite ttrpg system, or would you actually prefer to play something else?
Sometimes you just want to finish a campaign, or you’re playing with friends who prefer a different system, etc.

Drückt den Spieler*innen dann vorgefertigte #OSR Charaktere in die Pfötchen und lasst sie 30, 60 etc. Minuten den Dungeon erkunden. Vlt schaffen sie 2 oder 3 Räume, das Spiel fokussiert ganz auf das Erkunden. Das ist spannend und mit vglsw wenig Aufwand vorzubereiten: ein Dungeon, beliebig viele Gruppen/Anläufe. 3/3

@kaspi@rollenspiel.social Wenn es um ein konkretes Beispiel für ein Szenario geht, würde ich #SevenSilverSpheres empfehlen - ein kompakter #PointCrawl den ich auf der #LoFi Con recht erfolgreich für eine Newbie-Runde an den Start gebracht habe. Das Abenteuer hat ein schönes ingame Artefakt, eine kommentierte Karte, die die Orientierung der Neuspieler*innen erleichtert. Kann man in 120 Minuten gut spielen! 2/3

@juergen_hubert@mementomori.social @mhd@tilde.zone i think i would aim for a mundane setting, something like a pastice of early modern Central Europe, but frozen in time, with the adventurers representing individuals who are particular persceptive when it comes to the supernatural. Ordinary folks might notice that goods are missing, the PCs are more likely to actually observe the „Erdmantjes“ who steal stuff to take revenge for some wrongdoing etc.

@juergen_hubert@mementomori.social @mhd@tilde.zone For facilitating a sense of Space, „Folk Tale-Fantasyland“ could be composed of archetypical locations such as „the“ royal court, „the“ big city, etc. Groups/individuals who appear more regular in folk tales (the devil, the Venetians etc) could be used as bad ass factions in an ongoing campaign.

My fate would be to play four times a year or so. Online play has its limitations, but it provides me with an opportunity to run and play games regularly and the whole experience has become even better since I met many of you #Valravn folks at our mini cons ♥️

@chaoticneutral@dice.camp I usually gloss over minutiae as you say. For all my love for #OldSchoolDungeonsAndDragons I‘m not a huge fan of the rigid and predictable aspect of dnd style Vancian magic. I tend to interpret the spells loosely, allow for side effects etc. Really dig #osr ish games which integrate a roll to cast mechanics like DCC or Shadowdark which makes the use of sorcery more volatile and unpredictable

@TimmyMac@social.vivaldi.net woah… I read Low Fantasy Gaming some time ago and liked it. Am also aware of the game’s latest edition (Tales of Argosa or something). Never brought it to the table though. Somehow, I consider myself on an endless and ultimately futile quest to find the best #osr game to run low fantasy / sword & sorcery adventures.
