Let's go, #redsox !!!
Timmy Mac
Just finished this book and loved it. My wife says DeLillo writes for dudes but luckily I am one.
So, we're staying at a VRBO. We're leaving in the morning, so I'm removing our YouTube accounts from all the TVs we used while we were here.
Other past guests did not seem to do that. I can neither confirm nor deny that the Trumpiest algorithms are getting gayed up before we go...
My kid dragged me to the 10th anniversary theatrical showing of Your Name, which I'd never even heard of.
Holy shit, it was GREAT
Just finished Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and will be slightly off kilter for a bit.
I bounced off the book many years ago, and now I'm glad I did because now was definitely the right time for me to read it. It resonated in a way it wouldn't have when I was a young dumb shithead.
Posted up at the local brewery because I'm bored, hot, and still technically on vacation.
Ran class tonight - Friday is comp rounds but it was just me and a one month white belt. Actually just about the perfect way to get back on the mats after a week's vacation.
Currently reading: Agnet Running in the Field by John Le Carré 📚
Picked this up on a whim while waiting for my kid to finish picking her manga titles last week. Choosing it now to clear my brain after 3 weeks of Umberto Eco. https://micro.blog/books/9781984878878
In this moment of political fascism and corporate enshittification, it's pretty disheartening how many otherwise resistance-oriented sites and services are still using Facebook or Instagram or Discord or Substack for their communications.
Started reading Zen and the Art of Motorcylce Maintenance. Holy cow - why did I bounce off this 30 years ago? It was right in my wheelhouse at the time.
Currently reading: Inherent Vice by Thomas Pynchon 📚
Started this last night when I couldn’t sleep in the wee hours. Already loving it - it’s like Hunter Thompson crossed with James Ellroy… https://micro.blog/books/9781101594674
I appear to have caught a little springtime cold. Skipping training and drinking tea instead. Would hate to get other dudes sick, especially with a big comp coming up.
Hey, #bjj and #jiujitsu peeps - tell me if this sounds reasonable or if it's just copium:
About a year ago, I switched from a very smashmouth, wrestley kind of gym (where I went from white belt to brown) to a new gym across the street.
New gym is much more technique based, and, being new, was mostly lower belts. Nobody over blue except me, the coach, and a purple with sporadic attendance.
Lately, I'm getting caught in all kinds of stuff I didn't use to to a very frustrating degree. The kind of things that make you go, "Have I gotten worse?"
Here's my theory - I've probably gotten really sloppy and developed bad habits in the last year because the newer guys couldn't capitalize on my mistakes. Now, though, they're getting better whereas I've been reinforcing my bad habits for a year, and it's finally caught up to me.
Y'all think that sounds possible?
Really struggling to think of a gift for my son's birthday. Need some ideas!
He's 25, very shy, and not into fitness or the outdoors at all. He enjoys gaming but doesn't want any new games.
Ideally I'd find some experience that he could fall in love with, so (a) he has a passion and (b) I'll have gift ideas in the future.
He also loves Roman history, but isn't a podcast guy so my idea of the Hardcore History back catalog didn't fly.
Help!!!
Spent 500 bucks a month ago to have a dermatologist deal with an ugly spot on my forehead before a friend's wedding only to get mat burn on my face last night anyway (wedding is on Saturday).
