"I knew she was trouble as soon as she entered my office. Heavy perfume and tobacco smoke, she brandished a battered copy of the Warhammer Fantasy RPG core book. The dame knew how to make an entrance."

80s. Family moved a lot. With no permanent friends I retreated into imagination and fantasy. White Dwarf. Dragon. Fighting Fantasy. When we finally settled, I found a small Head Shop hidden in a decaying arcade that sold RPGs. They were kept under the counter and to this day still reek of the incense that burned behind the till.
My tastes haven’t changed much. Over three decades later and my biggest gaming revelation is still Advanced HeroQuest’s solo rules, and I still love crunch.
