It's mashed potatoes and cauliflower with a light Bolognese and no I won't answer questions about it. 😇
Nupo, Servant of The Bringer
I am currently taking a well-deserved social media vacation. No doubt I will return eventually but ... don't hold your breath? See y'all later! 😎
I can't keep all my D&D versions straight anymore.
So B/X uses STR for to-hit and damage bonus with melee weapons and DEX for to-hit bonus with missile weapons.
Right?
Which version is adding the DEX bonus to damage for missile weapons? Was there a version that added DEX to damage for bows and slings but STR to damage for daggers and axes to distinguish thrown and projectile weapons?
Anyone?
Seems to me that using STR and DEX in a "cross-over" way like that is actually kinda cute. Why should it not be done like that?
Let's ignore "rate of fire" BS because I am not into AD&D and multiple attacks per round. Because with RoF ... adding bonuses to damage for missiles would be overpowered compared to melee.
Certainly feels like I missed out on something BIG just because I grew up in the wrong country... 🤣
Hi there!
I'd like to buy your stuff, but I want to pay less and I want you to use a service you did not list as a shipping option. Just need your Paypal ID!
Regards,
Some Moron
I guess the world today is ripe (aka dumb enough) for another one of these. So be careful what you post to #ttrpg sites and forums, you may get their poor operators in trouble!

Went back down into the Mushroom Forest Cavern in Arden Vul tonight. And Bur leveled up!
Thanks @HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social ... also for not killing us outright. 😬
Just learned about these two (UK-only?) miniature sets. Loving the cover! One can almost see that Games Workshop was on the cusp of releasing Warhammer Fantasy Role Play, no? 😉 (Picture stolen from some Japanese site, sorry!) #citadel #miniatures #RetroDnD #UKDnD
I have a nice copy of Gary Gygax's "GW1: Legion of Gold" coming my way. I am paying about €30 for it as part of a larger package but I don't need it since I already have a copy.
If you're in Germany (or at least close to Germany) and interested, feel free to send a private message and I am happy to "pass it on" for what I paid plus shipping.
Please boost if you think you might know somebody who is into old Gamma World stuff.

Whoa, I'ma ride the Pink Pony Express next week, and straight into Arden Vul with #Shadowdark rules. 😬 Thank you @HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social ❤️ #valravn
I get bummed out when I see "AI" character portraits. I immediately have a "meh" opinion of the player. First impressions dude. If you can't draw, there's still a lot of other options, for example @kensanata@tabletop.social's face generator: https://campaignwiki.org/face No need to reach for the humongous planet-destroying copyright-robbing machinery just for a silly little game. #noai
You may not want to hear this, but I'll say it again anyway: The primary motivation for AD&D was that Gary Gygax thought Dave Arneson deserved no more money for the game he invented. A game that, admittedly, Gary Gygax much improved; so much so that he's quite deservedly thought of as a co-creator of D&D.
Note that it doesn't matter (much) that both of these people were different variants of "endearing assholes" to use a technical term. They had beef, and they each went on to write more RPGs, presumably to outdo D&D. Gary had better instincts for naming mind you, no doubt helped by TSR owning the D&D trademarks.
"But Peter, you were not there, how do you know for sure?"
Well, nobody "knows for sure" anymore these days (despite some people claiming otherwise), but the AD&D books provide AMPLE evidence with all the COMPLETELY BOGUS CHANGES that were put in JUST to make AD&D "different" from (O)D&D.
For example, nobody in their right mind replaces perfectly fine die rolls (d4, 2d6, etc.) with percentile dice (and a table) UNLESS they want to be able to say, in court maybe, "Well just look, it's a different die roll! These two things are not the same!" like an overconfident pissed-off teenage nerd monster.
Careful now: I am not saying AD&D is not a fun game. I am not saying AD&D is a worse game than D&D or AiF or whatever. I am talking about the motivation behind AD&D. And it was certainly not "tournament play," not by a long shot.
I'm looking forward to our next STAR FRONTIERS session so I figured I should broadcast my excitement with a suitable image. Here you go! 🤣
Pretty insane #Barrowmaze tonight. At one point the party sights another group about 50 feet down a large corridor and decides to wait. They see light from around another corner that seems to indicate fire beetles, but they wait. Then they notice a large group of tomb robbers approaching them from behind. The party with their lights dimmed withdraws further to let them pass. The tomb robbers eventually encounter the other two parties who have already been "debating" loudly and now things get worse. The players move closer to observe as the fighting starts in the large corridor. DARKNESS. STINKING CLOUD. Screaming! And then from behind the PCs: A group of five zombies! The players don't mess around and kill the zombies in a single round. Tomb robbers flee from the other combat, running past the player characters. About half of them anyway. Eventually a bunch of cultists approach. They are carefully retreating from the combat as well and want to head south through the room where the players think the fire beetles are. PC magic-user pops out and LIGHTNING BOLTs some cultists, then they kill two more with swords. They can't see the leader but as one of them moves further into the corridor to get a better look, that lead cultist pops out and casts SLEEP which puts everyone except for four PCs down. But they handle it well with a triple MAGIC MISSILE! And it turns out that the "fire beetles" was a rope with CONTINUAL LIGHT on it wrapped in dirty rags colored red and yellow. 😅
Alright fellas, how about some nice fresh character sheets for our three Dralasite private sense-spots? 🤣 @frotz@mastodon.sdf.org @kensanata@tabletop.social @lkh #StarFrontiers #DralasitePower
You know what? Forget "extraordinary" strength with percentiles and all that. Too fiddly! And I'm getting all sorts of inspired by the Palladium people these days so ... Yeah, I know! 🤷
Here's the deal. If you roll an 18 on 3d6 for a prime requisite, you deserve a chance for a little something extra. Just a ... you know ... a little something something. 😬
So roll a d6: 1-3: nothing happens after all, sorry, but 18 is still a great score; 4-5: your score is actually 19; 6: your score is actually 20.
In my house rules bonuses follow the good old standard deviations of 3d6 so ... 13-15: +1, 16-18: +2, 19-21: +3. Nowhere near as crazy as Palladium itself, but still ... CRAZY! 🤣
Someone take a seat at the #Barrowmaze table! This Thursday, May 28, at 8:15 pm CEST! Check out https://campaignwiki.org/wiki/MontagInZ%c3%bcrich/The_Monday_Games for more deets and join us on our #IRC or, if you must, Discord. But the game uses #Galene which is a super-simple video conferencing thing that seems to work for most people. NO DICE CAM NEEDED! Although I might bring one so you will believe me when the masses of undead devour you!!! 💀 ☠️ 🥷 🪦 🏊 🧛 🩸 🧟 🐲
It's funny that ALIENS is probably my favorite movie of the franchise (the crazy David Fincher one is next) but a contemporary review in Different Worlds magazine from Nov/Dec 1986 says "...it will excite a great number of people for a few months. But in the end it will be forgotten—completely." 🤣 #Aliens #DifferentWorlds #NineteenEightySix
Sad but true, #BasementDelving is no more. Well, at least not in Ye Olde Basement at my parents house. 😭 Yes yes, of course I have my own basement now. But somehow I doubt that there will be #ttrpg surprises waiting for me there. 🤣
Sometimes I need "quick" reminders on the Wilderlands without having to wade through a lot of (physical) pages. I usually end up in these places:
https://pandius.com/wilder_r.html
https://inplacesdeep.blogspot.com/2013/12/notes-on-wilderlands-of-swords-and.html
https://inplacesdeep.blogspot.com/2018/10/wilderlands-history-corrected-now-with.html
https://www.acaeum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?cache=1&f=13&t=16414
None of these are "canonical" as far as I know (although that last one seems to source canonically), but they seem to have enough "overlap" with what I need to know (very little, really!) about the Wilderlands to be "close enough" for the most part.
Let's settle this conundrum once and for all: Since Shadowrun has no halflings, what do dragons eat for snacks between meals?
You're thirsty. It's hot. You drink ...
