One thing I've only recently noticed just how much I enjoy about self-hosting my own Git forge: The speed of all the operations.
It just feels so satisfyingly responsive and makes me wish for (and at least for myself work toward) a world with more local services again :3

After it became clear, my now (since manufacture) over 10 year old UPS seems to be killing its batteries now (two times did reputable batteries die in a row in under 2 years space between them). Two times not slowly, but the UPS would start spitting out "battery charge cannot support load" errors, and refusing to even do runtime calibration.
The self-test still passes, though!

So I decided to treat myself to an actually new Eaton 5PX G2 (the 1440W/VA model.

No more APC for me. And CyberPower seemed a little cheap for my rack <.<

Originally I was dead set on Lithium, but it is just too expensive, and used is basically impossible, soooo

A shout to everyone, including and especially myself: Please set a minimum dependency age when you auto-update dependencies.

My ass got saved by being too lazy to merge the automated axios MR before it got yoinked. Too close for comfort. (Granted, even if I deployed the malicious payloud, the worst it could do is delete my FA archives since I do permissions right...)

Say hello to my fully automated self-regulating Minecraft electricity (FE) to Create power (su) converter.

The computer uses Advanced peripherals energy sensors to actively limit the amount of FE going into the motors to slightly above current demand to not waste energy.

Thanks to a forum post on the NixOS forums here https://discourse.nixos.org/t/unifi-os-server-on-nixos/76039

I have come up with a modified version of the UniFi OS Server setup that runs as a normal podman container:
- rootless if desired
- without privileged or any non-default capability/privilege flags

Stage 1: https://git.foxden.network/FoxDen/core/src/branch/main/nix/packages/unifi-os-server-image/package.nix
A package that rips the image out of the official binary:

Stage 2: https://git.foxden.network/FoxDen/core/src/branch/main/nix/modules/nixos/services/unifi-os-server.nix
Creates the actual OCI container (the "oci" field in my custom handler maps 1:1 to virtualization.oci-containers.[things], the "systemd" field maps 1:1 to the systemd podman-[things] service config for those curious)

Today I am grateful for: The fact PTZ controls are a standard on USB video devices, so I can actually control my Insta360 Link2 Pro with Linux very easily :3

(Yes, all the "AI" it does is all in software, the camera itself is just a pretty good standard UVC PTZ webcam)

@livingshredder@furry.engineer Yeah MediaWiki is exactly an old school PHP app. Easy to install the basic thing especially if you know how to edit the config yourself. But then absolutely annoying to manage and get up to a high quality standard.

@petafloppa I love TypeScript. Mainly for my own sanity as it prevents a lot of silly fox mistakes. I don't like plain JS anymore because it's just harder for me to use at this point. But TS is very fun and very fox.

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz You want to know the worst part? US dishwashers *do not have* a salt/brine exchanger. They just don't. You can buy European brand models sometimes with them in, but models for the US market do not have this feature and it upsets me greatly.
