When designing a programming language, your absolute primary goal must be choosing a set of paradigms and conventions that makes writing a hello world program as short as possible, without compromising overall functionality. Before you do anything else, do this. It's a very good litmus test for base-level verbosity.

Also:

1. Verbosity is a subcategory of complexity.

2. All general properties and axioms that apply for complexity, applies for verbosity.

3. Complexity for the sake of convetion is always bad.

4. Language-induced complexity must always sublinearly scale with functionality.

Every vibe-coded website looks exactly the same.

- two-line title with colored text
- badges in monospace font with rounded corners and a frosted glass background effect
- website banner with search box with ctrl+k keybindto search
- cards with metrics in different colors
- the whole website looks like something out of cyberpunk 2077

You know, all of this could literally just be a single jinja template, and I don't think maintaining widespread ignorance of that fact is worth the wasted terrawatthours and irreversible damage to the environment we sustain from an LLM generating the exact same CSS a five or six digit number of times.

And perhaps the deeper point to this is that not only are LLMs less than they're made out to be, as is well-known, but even if they were anywhere close to AGI, humans are by and large too stupid to interface with such a tool effectively in a way not overlapped and universally outperformed by existing and well-established technologies.

I'm considering making a declarative programming language where you make programs in three steps:

1. basically describe encoding formats for the data, where passing data in that format automagically gets converted to a deserialized/parsed object, and where the reverse operation is also possible, e.g.

model RSAPemPublicKey{
property n:mpz_t;
property e:mpz_t;
format{
"-----BEGIN PUBLIC KEY-----",
base64{ASN.1-DER{_,\@n,\@e@infosec.exchange}},
"-----END PUBLIC KEY-----"
}
}

2. define inputs and outputs as declared models/formats.
3. assign inputs and outputs to file paths (taking advantage of everything-is-a-file to make that essentially universal, e.g. stdin is just /fd/1.)

On runtime the program will read inputs to file, process them to assigned models, map extracted parameters to output models, encode those, then write to outputs.

Sprinkle in some logic to make looping/continouos execution possible, and you've got yourself an extremely powerful programming language.

Three rules:
1. be good to the earth
2. be good to others
3. be good to yourself

Nothing else really matters. If you can follow these three religiously, you've already won at being human.

@RainDragon Just to be that person: LLMs refer specifically to language models, i.e. text generators. Generated illustrations require the use of a GAN, diffusion model or token-based composition model.

There seems to be a certain critical mass where a society grows so large and complex that it is no longer possible to manage it through standard political control. The society forms a will of its own, and is driven by the naïve assumptions underpinning its political framework. A small set of parameters are selected, and optimized for, at the cost of everything else. Over time, society rots. Until the living standards disintegrate to the point where revolution is necessary for survival. Leaders are killed or exiled, and slowly the power vaccuum is filled by another paradigm. The cycle repeats.

Utilitarianism is just a first-order derivative of hedonism. It's equally silly. Doing math with happiness. It's a capitalist analysis of the meaning of life. Happymaxxing. It runs right into Goodhart's law.

The recipe for a humane society can't be reduced to a single equation. Humans don't work that way.

To protect your computer against Arch users, remember to enable TPM2-bound LUKS encryption with systemd. A big thanks to the orange butthole and its human minions for this monumental contribution.

Oh, and don't set a recovery password or key escrow, those introduce a backdoor that could let the Arch users back inside.

@yamuis@mastodon.nl Art is a communicative process. What a lot of people mean to say when they use "art" is "illustration". Though, most often when something is illustrated, it is also communicated, so the act of making an illustration and making art becomes one in the same. With computer algorithms though, the difference emerges. So we have illustrations that are not art, because computers cannot communicate, because they are not sentient or volitional.

@yossarian@infosec.exchange I have from bitter experience learned to never writing long texts in web forms. I write it in a .md file and copy-paste over when I'm finished. The modern web can't be trusted. Also, it's possible to recover the text from the brower's memory if you're quick. I did that for a job application once.

From a purely technological standpoint, Palantir's products really isn't that impressive. Host your own SearXNG with some Mapbox/OSM and Grafana embeds + custom modules for various common-knowledge OSINT tools and closed datasets and you're basically there. This could be done in a relatively productive afternoon.

nirodha is true will. in those four words, the bridge between buddhism and thelema is built. the defeat of choronzon is the cessesiton of wants, false wills, short-sighted pleasure for long-term suffering. your true will is to win your toughest battles. and those battles are with yourself.
