And killing internet businesses. The constant hammering of AI scraper bots, and their content is being presented to AI users without the businesses getting the web traffic. This kills their advertising profit. A double whammy.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social You never know, I might need that Centronics cable. What about the SCSI terminators? Internal audio cables to go from the CD-ROM drive to the sound card? It would be funny if it wasn't true. I have at least 3 large boxes of cables. It is amazing what I can find in the bottom of these boxes!

The claim that “MAGA Assholes do not cause autism” is not an evidence based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that MAGA Assholes cause autism.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social I ran into this issue with my attorney. He was drawing up some documents for me, and at a preliminary meeting, I was asked if I minded if their AI transcriber ran during our meeting. I said I DID mind and everyone in the meeting just looked at me. Nobody had ever said "no" to them before. They didn't know what to do.

It's a shame that Graphene is being attacked when they are trying to do their part in making the world a better place.

@kAlvaro@mastodon.social Unfortunately, there really isn't a replacement for YouTube content (yet). Peertube maybe has 0.1% of the content YouTube has. You can (and should) use an alternative client to watch YouTube content. I am hoping that with the EU moving towards digital sovereignty, a true YouTube competitor rises that will treat content creators and users fairly.

@JoBlakely@mastodon.social QR codes have many use cases. Most often, they are used to track users. Restaurants want to know how often you frequent their establishment and how much you spend each visit, ad agencies use them to track the "stickiness" of their ads, bad actors use them to install malware on your device. I will NEVER scan a QR code that I did not generate myself. The more you know...

I used to use OpenShot, then moved to Kdelive because OpenShot was missing some features. I will definitely give this new version of OpenShot a try.

I have several 6th gen core i5s and one 12th gen core i5. Almost all have 16GB of RAM. With the right Linux distro for each computer, they all are plenty fast for what I do. All purchased before prices started rising (a couple were around $40). I am set for the foreseeable future. The A.I. bubble will have burst before I need a new machine.

I've tested GhostBSD too. Probably the easiest BSD, but still a long way from being a daily driver.

I hope the Motorola deal vastly increases that number. I read somewhere that the Motorola phones with GrapheneOS might be targeted at business customers. If that is true, I think not also offering these phones to privacy conscious consumers is a missed opportunity for both Motorola and Graphene. Have you reached out to companies like Nothing to see if they would be interested in a partnership? It might be mutually beneficial if they could provide compatible hardware.

@nixCraft Make the creators of content broadcast a flag of mature content. The OS can be configured to read the flag and not load mature content if the adult has turned on content filtering. Problem solved without making private information vulnerable to hackers or corrupt governments.

Not going to be the year of BSD. I have been a Linux user for almost 40 years. For much of that time, Linux was only for the hard core. Only in the last few years has Linux been usable for the masses. BSD is still decades behind Linux. It is not ready for the casual user...yet. I hope it gets there. We need all the alternatives to corporate OSes we can get.

How many GrapheneOS users are there currently? I know you don't do telemetry, but update volume should give you an idea. Wikipedia states about 400k. I find it hard to believe that low of a number. I understand there are currently several barriers to getting new users (must have Pixel device, must be able to unlock bootloader, must be unafraid of flashing new OS, etc.). I haven't been using GrapheneOS very long, but I can't imagine going back to Google's version of Android.
