@crowgirl@hachyderm.io having been in this position before, I would say the first thing to do, before anything, is image that drive. Use dd or something to make a copy of it before doing anything. That way you can try risky things without worrying.

@dansup@mastodon.social Better idea than starter packs. It might be good to encourage joining smaller servers on a page like that, to help prevent Fedi getting too centralized.

@vga256@mastodon.tomodori.net I would read it. As a programmer the Wolfenstein black book was super eye opening.

@heidilifeldman Conservatives have no moral or ethical coherence, no actual belief system other than an enduring commitment to sadism and cruelty so the conflict between the dumbassery of the past and the dumbassery du jour is no surprise. What *is* surprising is things having worked out positively as a result. A little ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

@ZachWeinersmith Mastodon's for talking to friends, not for talking to an audience anyway. Shame you're leaving, but I get it. Stay safe out there, I hope you get a good few years of engagement before a billionaire inevitably ruins it.

@crowgirl@hachyderm.io If you get stuck or anything hit me up and I'll do what I can to help, I'm around for the next couple of hours and more or less all day tomorrow. I'm not a Linux expert but I've been running a Debian server for a few years and have gotten out of my share of jams.

@peterhorvath @aparrish The game of chess and human-like cognition are two very different classes of problem - and ML/LLMs are light years away from actual reasoning. AI doomerism is about as convincing as crypto replacing fiat currency.

@david_chisnall They know the bubble is going to pop and they're getting increasingly desperate.

📻 I bought some mesh radio hardware. I'm going to run a node on my server with a webui. I'll also get a companion device for my phone / laptop. That should enable me to do ROOPHLOCH next year. If it performs the way I want, maybe I'll even get a solar-powered repeater to increase the range. I even have a bit of a pie-in-the-sky idea to hike into the wilderness high up on the mountain and set one up in a tree or something.
👷 I'm back at work after vacation. Normally that's tough but I'm enjoying my work right now. Minimal psychic damage.
