However, of all possible uses of said ledgers, what ultimately prevailed are the scummiest ones... As always, stupidity prevails. 😭

@veronica@explains.social Yes, everyone deserves privacy. Privacy is one of those things that is sort of all or nothing: them not having privacy is actually hurting my privacy, just by making me (with more privacy) stand out. I'm not arguing that. But I'm not gonna bend backwards for people who'll troll you the first chance they get. If they want to shoot themselves in the foot, I won't waste my time and energy trying to stop them. Especially given that they will retry as soon as they can (read: as soon as I have left) anyway. I would love to say that privacy isn't a lost cause, but we aren't nearly intelligent enough as a society to salvage what's left and fight back...

@peter I take issue with the "forgiving the nazi tattoo" part. First, there is a real insane problem here, that his excuse of "not knowing" is holding any water. And that insane problem has a name: the US school system. Better known as "firing squads raffle for kids". Second, and that incidentally showcases my previous point: no one involved here seems to even grasp, let alone understand, the abysmal difference between the nazi and the SS. For shame. You are doomed by your own ignorance.

This has been decades in the making, with google literally taking ownership of all that makes the web the web, bit by bit, deceptively; exploiting its early image as a benefactor, taking advantage of the utter absence of funding in FOSS, of the closeted and clerical nature of committees, all in the name of "profit". They literally became the web. We collectively welcomed them, in spite of many warnings. I'd boast "We told you so" to anyone within hearing range, but I doubt any of the concerned parties would ever have the self-awareness to feel anything but egocentric concern. 🤷‍♂️
