A #Chrome extension has been released that "turns off" the noise and bias on #X. It works simply: once enabled, it prevents X from opening. Via @thatgiga@mastodon.social #LeaveX

Last week, I wrote to all my online subscriptions. I took the time to check if they were still active on X, or if they had left an X logo on their website. And I unsubscribed if I didn't get a clear reply. I also wrote to my politicians, local and national. #Twitter #Xitter #LeaveX #WhatItTakes @leavex@mastodon.social

Elon Musk told ex-girlfriend he needed ‘a legion of children before the civil war’ https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/sep/08/elon-musk-ashley-st-clair-documentary-venice #Musk #LeaveX

Our most-shared post today was about this alarming exchange. It captures one of the main reasons we created #LeaveX: to protect democracy from political manipulation and disinformation promoted by tech billionaires through platforms they control. This is not only about the US. The attack on democracy is global, and the tech oligarchs are gaining ground. How can we bring democrats together and turn concern into *effective action*? #Democracy #FarRight #EU #SachsenAnhalt

The AfD’s lead candidate in Saxony-Anhalt publicly thanked Elon Musk for his support in the election and welcomed further "strong and constructive cooperation." This should prompt serious scrutiny of foreign influence on German elections, particularly when that influence comes from someone who controls a major communications platform with hundreds of millions of users. But we suspect little or nothing will happen. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/sep/07/afd-thanks-elon-musk-german-state-elections-2026-win #SachsenAnhalt #FarRigh #Musk #LeaveX

#LeaveX #TikTok #Deutschland #Rechtsextremismus #NoAfD

Tagesspiegel today: TikTok is a radicalization engine. So is X. #LeaveTikTok #LeaveX #FarRight #CSD #BigTech #SocialMedia

Good question: Why does @PolizeiBerlin@berlin.social still rely exclusively on X for emergency updates? And why was mobile reception allowed to fail at such a major event? During an emergency, people searching for relatives and friends need reliable access to timely official information, not dependence on a platform controlled by a dangerous far-right billionaire. Public authorities must do better. https://dju.social/@DerKlimablog/116982904247901359 #Berlin #CSD #LeaveX #FarRight

Die Bundestagsfraktionen von SPD, die Grünen und DIE LINKE sind bei Musks X (#leaveX) ausgestiegen. Was ist mit der CDU? Great talk by @everton137@social.vivaldi.net from March last year (25), that I salvaged over to #peertube from the evil powers of #youtube, so that I can watch it, which I did. And it was great. Am I repeating myself? Always. "Politcians should ask themselves: do you want to have you're advertising in a public toilet?" https://video.folkdata.se/w/dXwWVt4TA4VzcUb8DEHhct #leaveX #degoogle

We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to […] social networks, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies. Emanuel Macron, president of France, Saarbrücken, October 3 2025 https://defenddemocracy.eu/macron-democracy-tech/ #leaveX

I had the opportunity to tell the founders of the Sovereign Tech Agency (@sovtechfund@mastodon.social) that I'm a big fan of their organization. I firmly believe that other countries should have similar initiatives. In fact, the EU should have one too. Their recent €600k+ grant to Mastodon is a great example of what public investment in open digital infrastructure can look like. It strengthens the Fediverse, a real alternative to X. As I’ve argued in the #LeaveX campaign: we already have a viable social media alternative to X (1) and what we lack is sustained funding and political commitment. (2) Thus, if more EU countries invested in improving Mastodon, how quickly could it become Europe’s de facto public square? While most European politicians still prefer X for their official communication, reducing technical barriers could attract a more diverse audience, including the people our representatives want to reach, like journalists and the general public. By the way, it's interesting, though not surprising, that the Sovereign Tech Agency has almost four times as many followers on Mastodon as on Bluesky. It would be great to see them highlighting posts and profiles of some awesome open-source projects active on the Fediverse. 😉 #Mastodon #Fediverse #Bluesky #SocialMedia #EU #OpenSource

Social media is turning into a freak show https://www.natesilver.net/p/social-media-has-become-a-freak-show The ecosystem is unhealthy, especially on X/Twitter, and that's producing some strange beasts among the most influential accounts. 1/3 #LeaveX #FarRight #BigTech #SocialMedia

RE: https://mstdn.social/@stux/116337052513452953 EN: What is our government still doing on #X? X, formerly #Twitter: it used to be a pretty cool platform, but then it just got worse and worse. X isn’t what it used to be since #Musk took over. Is it really smart for the #Dutch #government to be on X? Should our country’s leadership be complicit in this sick business model of an #American tech billionaire? Time for Deep Dive Thursday! #LeaveX

Big Tech and the Far Right: Musk’s growing political role illustrates how concentrated private power in the tech sector is fuelling fascism. Through control of a major social media platform, amplification of far-right narratives and direct engagement with reactionary figures and movements, Musk has helped normalise extremist rhetoric and expand its reach.
