{from one of my later replies in this thread} in my own case, fwiw, of the three i listed, the one at greatest risk of me backsliding, is The Fox... i have tried several times over the years to give up :firefox_nightly: , & ofc all those attempts failed, coz... i love its icon, & i love getting the bugfixes & new features faster! ...aaaaaaaaand so it has come to pass... i have jumped back to :firefox_nightly: this morning! 🙄🤦‍♀️ it's just been bugging me continually over these days since my OP, how it could be that my primary Nightly profile could have suddenly changed, with one routine update several days before my OP, from being great to being shit [as judged by its performance on my primary fediverse tab; #Phanpy]. i then kept waiting for subsequent bi-daily updates to fix this "obvious" bug the Devs "had introduced" with that specific version, but update after update my Phanpy tab remained unusable [scrolling had become agonising, feeling like it was trying to move thu cold treacle, with attendant high cpu%]. neither regular :firefox: nor :floorp: suffered this problem [but then again, neither had Nightly, until That One Update]. so coz i'm stubborn & silly, i just could not leave this puzzle unsolved. this morn after many hours investigating, i finally solved it, afaict... for years, Nightly on my pooter has run better when i disable its default settings of Use recommended performance settings, and associated Use hardware acceleration when available [i have no dedicated gpu, only the integrated Intel graphics]. i've run that way so long i'd forgotten about it. this morn i discovered that the Phanpy treacle problem simply vanishes entirely, if i return those settings to default. so, it seems the Devs made some internal change with That One Update, with which my specific departure from default, formerly as asset, became a liability. d'oh! 😲 🤯 #DropbearPooterising #Linux #LinuxWomen #FOSS:kde: :linux: #KDELinux:firefox_nightly: #FirefoxNightly #FirefoxSecondSidebar #NativeTreeTabs

@WhyNotZoidberg@topspicy.social its UI design & operability is far faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar too opinionated for me, in myriad ways i actively dislike... plus it does not do much stuff i do want... plus it has [or at least used to have] a chronic problem of spontaneously losing all its tabs after restart 🙄🤦‍♀️ my strong preference is my beaut combo of... :firefox_nightly: #FirefoxNightly #FirefoxSecondSidebar #NativeTreeTabs

@paco@infosec.exchange wot is the benefit to you of this? 😮🤷‍♀️ DRM off by default i use my browser to actually do stuff, one of which is to be able to stream what i want. some / many? of my routine streaming sites simply do not work with DRM disabled. :firefox_nightly: #FirefoxNightly #FirefoxSecondSidebar #NativeTreeTabs #userJS

tis evil shit like this that only reinforces my determination never to run an unhardened profile as my main browser, eg for years i have Service Workers disabled via my user.js, & javascript disabled globally in my uBlockOrigin advanced settings, allowed only on a per-site manual basis https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/malicious-sites-use-javascript-to-build-malware-in-browser-memory/ sigh, so many bastards about 🥺 PS-1: all you chrome / chromium users, now without uBO; what on earth are you thinking? 🤷🙄🤦‍♀️ PS-2: i know this article pertains to attacks on silly crypto-shitheads, but i'm looking at the larger picture; the same attack vector could be applied more broadly, not just for those karmic victims, ha! #DropbearPooterising #LinuxWomen :firefox_nightly: #FirefoxNightly #browsers #userJS #uBlockOrigin

@henry@techlore.tv so many peeps have said this in the past few days, & it is exasperating, coz it is not trueFirefox just made them nativethey did not "just" do this now. in my :firefox_nightly: and :firefox: i have been using the native #containers without an addon, for at least a year. both browser variants have had this native capability ipso facto for at least one year... otherwise i could not have been using this capability. why are so many peeps being so misleading about this? #firefoxnightly #firefox

@linuxiac@mastodon.social @mozilla@mastodon.social you & many other tech sites are pushing this line, also Mozilla themselves, about the "new" native #Containers. it's totes blowing my mind. i have been using this already for the last year at least, sans AO, in my :firefox_nightly: and :firefox:, & so simply cannot understand how anyone can now call it "new" 🤷😮🤯. user_pref("privacy.userContext.enabled", true); user_pref("privacy.userContext.newTabContainerOnLeftClick.enabled", true); user_pref("privacy.userContext.ui.enabled", true); These reports seem rather misleading afaict. cc: @firefoxnightly@mastodon.social#userJS #firefox #firefoxnightly #dropbearpooterising #linuxwomen

So I have a habit of running the latest versions of #ChromeCanary and #FirefoxNightly just because I don't want to fall behind on #SecurityUpdates, to test for #compatibility and other issues and to sstay ahead of any #vulnerabilities in my #browser because I store a lot of #passwords locally in my profiles among other information that I don't #sync online. Well, lately, every time the browser updates, I keep having to #SignIn to different services like #ChatGPT #Google for #GMail and #Microsoft #Outlook etc. Nothing changed in my #configuration and I didn't install any #extensions that I know of which would do this. Ever since #Windows #11 version #29550 came out, this has been a frequent occurrence. Coincidence?
