🌿A food forest is a diverse, self-sustaining ecosystem that grows food by working with nature. At Green Youth Movement, our vision is to establish a food forest once we secure funding for land. It will increase harvests, restore biodiversity, and provide hands-on training in regenerative agriculture for more young people and communities. @environment @foodpluswords_@flipboard.com @BathNature@ecoevo.social #gardening #Diet #nutrition #agriculture #environment #biodiversity #ecosystems #agroecology #plants #permaculture #UK

Natural forest regrowth offers a lower-cost path to climate and #biodiversity goals by University of Queensland, edited by Swati Mestri, reviewed by Robert Egan August 20, 2026 Excerpt: "As nations race to restore #ecosystems and curb #ClimateChange, research has shown that letting nature do the work is a cost-effective, viable solution. A study from the University of Queensland and the University of Newcastle found that natural forest regeneration delivered substantial carbon and #biodiversity benefits and could be up to 96% cheaper than traditional #TreePlanting programs. The work is published in the journal Nature Ecology & Evolution. "School of the Environment Ph.D. candidate Jiaqi Li said the team mapped how the costs and benefits of natural regeneration varied across the tropics. " 'Nature is a great gardener. Sometimes we just need to get out of its way while providing a bit of support,' Li said. " 'For tree planting, you need to purchase seeds and hire workers or recruit volunteers to plant and manage them, which is costly. " 'For natural regeneration, people just need to check the land for #InvasiveSpecies and remove them, make sure there are adequate seed sources, provide protection from fire, #GrazingAnimals and humans, and then it is mostly self-sufficient. " 'In many cases of natural regeneration, studies show that you can end up with a forest that could store more carbon and is more #biodiverse than a planted forest.' Riding Mountain: An Island of Wilderness Riding Mountain National Park is a 'wilderness island' in a 'sea of agriculture.' On the Manitoba Escarpment, its high elevation creates an environment distinct from the prairies. This allows three ecosystems to converge: grasslands, upland boreal, and eastern deciduous forest, supporting a rich biodiversity found nowhere else on the plains. #Canada #RidingMountain #Manitoba #Ecosystems 🇨🇦 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riding_Mountain_National_Park

#SouthAmerica’s First Continental #WildlifeCorridor By: Tompkins Conservation, October 9, 2025 "The #JaguarRiversInitiative is the first multi-country effort to create a massive wildlife corridor in the heart of South America. Uniting successful grassroots nonprofits in #Argentina, #Bolivia, #Brazil, and #Paraguay, the initiative will restore #ecosystems, bring back #KeySpecies, and develop #NatureBasedEconomies in a new cross-border model that addresses the mass #ExtinctionCrisis and climate instability on a global scale. "In a groundbreaking announcement during #ClimateWeek in September [2025], an alliance of grassroots South American nonprofits launched South America’s largest continental-scale rewilding endeavor. The Jaguar Rivers Initiative plans to reconnect #FragmentedEcosystems across the vast #ParanáBasin using #RiverCorridors as the connective tissue. 'We all know the urgency of the #biodiversity and climate crises,' said Kristine Tompkins of Tompkins Conservation. 'This bold initiative underlines the need for coordinated, large-scale action before it’s too late. I’d call it a lifeline to our planet.' "South America is in the midst of an unparalleled ecological crisis. #Wildlife populations across the region have declined by 94 percent since 1970—the steepest drop in the world. The drivers of this collapse—#deforestation, river degradation, #fragmentation, fire, and #overexploitation—are intensifying in the face of #ClimateChange. "The Jaguar Rivers Initiative will restore, protect, and connect #ecosystems throughout the heart of South America, covering nearly one million square miles, an area almost twice the size of Alaska. According to Deli Saavedra, the director of the initiative, 'We’re undertaking a very strategic act to safeguard one of the largest river systems in the world. By restoring its ecological integrity, diverse species and communities currently under threat in four countries have the opportunity to thrive, using a model of nature restoration combined with regenerative economies that has been tested and proven successful in places like the #BrazilianPantanal and the #IberáWetlands of #Argentina.' The initiative will be centered around four pillars: • Arks: Large intact ecosystems with keystone species, restored and rewilded to become sources of wildlife dispersal. • #BufferAreas: Surrounding zones where restorative economies promote coexistence and extend protection. • Stepping Stones: Smaller wildlife refuges along corridors, often private reserves, that enable safe dispersal and reduce human-wildlife conflicts. • #Rivers and #Floodplains: Vital corridors for connectivity, requiring healthy ecological flows; safeguarded through citizen guardianship, monitoring, and strong policies." #Wales - #RSPB buys 'magical' 96-hectare landscape to reconnect #habitats by Oscar Edwards, July 11, 2026 "A charity has bought a 96-hectare upland area of Gallt-y-bere in the hope of reconnecting two landscapes that are home to rare habitats and wildlife. RSPB announced the purchase of the 'vital missing link' located by the banks of the #RiverTywi in #Carmarthenshire. "The area falls between two separated parts of the bird conservation charity's Gwenffrwd-Dinas nature reserve in the Elenydd, it said. "The move will allow conservationists to reconnect the fragmented landscape for the first time in 60 years, allowing #wildlife to move across the different areas and build stronger, more diverse and #sustainable #ecosystems." Seems timely, since we are in midst of multiple #ClimateCrisis events, to post about 2 Canadian made film projects that explore what the world would be like, without humans. First up is, Aftermath: Population Zero aka Aftermath: The World After Humans. Imagine if one minute from now, every single person on Earth disappeared. All of us. Human history just stopped. What would happen to the world without us? Aftermath: Population Zero features what scientists and others speculate the earth, animal life, and plant life might be like if humanity no longer existed, as well as the effect that humanity's disappearance would have on the artefacts of civilization. this documentary is inspired by Alan Weisman's The World Without Us. Yet the leadership of #Alberta and #Canada are all in on killing #ecosystems, generating more #climate #refugees, and driving more rapid #climateBreakdown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjeuEsJHwOA#cdnpoli #abpoli #BigOil #CorporateCapture #NeverTrustLiberals #NeverVoteConservative
