Awful! "The election outcome leaves the Amazon Rainforest and its peoples in peril: Bolsonarism gained ground and will soon govern seven out of nine states states in the biome where deforestation increased by 59% during the previous four years it held the presidency.
Currently, five of the region’s state administrations – Acre, Rondônia, Roraima, Mato Grosso, and Tocantins – are aligned with the far right, led by former president Jair Bolsonaro, who was convicted of attempting a coup. As a result of the October 4 vote, it maintains control of these states and adds two more: Pará and Amapá.
The far right, which is working to tear down legal barriers to predatory exploration in the Forest, will dominate the Amazon."
