be the eldritch horror you want to see in the woods.
Very happy to be in Toronto, one of my favourite cities, these days.
#BloodAndPlunder galleon starting to get primed. Realized I forgot the stern decorations, but green stuff, superglue, and a hobby knife to rough up the underlying surface makes up for many faults.
I hesitate to tag this #minis because it is so huge, but it is still 28mm scale I guess!
Well, my first 28mm scale ship is done. This will be the French buccaneer sloop the Alouette, captured and renamed from the English ship Lark.
Got my deadeyes done on the Bermuda sloop. Not very taut and not very even, but I’m really happy for my first go! Gotta get ratlines and select running rigging on it next!
I know this has been said by many people many times, but let me put it as simply as I can: the only tragedy of the commons is enclosure by the wealthy.
Today I met a kid, maybe 7 or so, who corrected someone saying something was a Triceratops by observing that it was a Styracosaurus but that both are ceratopsids. He then went on to tell me every zebra fact he knew.
I was made very happy.
And here’s Stede Bonnet, in colours inspired by Our Flag Means Death.
A strange game. The only playing move is not to win.
Billionaires anywhere are a threat to human flourishing everywhere.
Having one of those days where I want to look up information on bending a sail to a yard, but the internet only understands “bending” in the everyday sense. I refuse to search for “attaching” because that’s not the Right Word.
Yes, this is what happens when you let a linguist learn a bit about tall ship sailing. It’s bad for everyone.
1/60 scale sloop is getting there. Finished painting. Varnish, sails, and rigging to come.
With vim and python getting slop commits, do we make “Vibe Check” to monitor for this shit? Or killthevi.be ?
Toddler saw pix of Kirk and Spock on her Little Golden Book and said “Captain Kirk can hug Mr Spock!”
The kid gets it already.
Mark Kanemura dancing to "Cut to the Feeling".
If it's in your head now, 🩷💜💙
Summer of Plunder 2026 kicks off with me getting crushed against a lee shore by the Spanish and not even getting a moral victory by running away with the objective.

"There is a certain attraction in extreme ugliness, especially when it is fit to purpose."
So says Kroum Batchvarov, of the gundalow USS Philadelphia.
My dear spouse has said she believes that American evangelical Christianity is what you get when Calvinist style “salvation by faith not works” spends a few generations marinating in Tornado Alley.
I think there’s something to that.
I am also team “ukuleles are beautiful and fun”.
Clinical and accurate, and I’m enjoying it.
I’m still strangely proud that I can carry the title Hunter of the Shrouded Ghost.
New Metric is *good*.
I’m seeing lots of sentiments like this:

And I’m thinking of Gil Scott-Heron. As ever.
Songs that fade out bother me deeply.
Strategizing model ship stuff with a friend, he says:
> What I notice looking at various small ship models is that things aren't convincingly under tension is almost a hallmark of the look.
> Like doll dresses, the material is too stiff for the scale and there's no wind holding it taught. The lines are sewing thread and there's a little bend in it partway along so it looks small.
Not me reading up again on Peronism on a casual Tuesday night. Nope. No way.
“Beach House” continues to be very good.
New hobby unlocked: auscultation.
