okay, so in July 2024 I bought a pair of 18tb hard drives for storage + backup for $180 apiece.
This January, I bought a third 18TB to add parity checking, which was $320.
Now (in March), looking at the same drives, it’s $500.
wild in the year-of-our-lord 2026 to see apartment ads looking for ‘female-identifying’ roommates. Who in the world is that phrase intended for?
Every single time I’ve seen that phrase I’ve assumed the writer wants to seem vaguely progressive and trying to seem trans-inclusive but also on some fundamental levels sees trans women as something other than women

My proposal:
1) eliminate daylight savings time
2) institute a large number of smaller time zones, each separated by 15 minutes
3) allow each county to select its own time zone and to switch between them whenever they wish
Love that thing where you’ve been mostly m moved out of your apartment for a month and the only things plugged in have been a fridge and a router and you still get judgmental emails from PG&E saying that you’ve used 20% more electricity than similar homes
Cool how if you lift with your back you can avoid knee problems down the way
@mj12albert yeah when I’d initially built my little NAS I bought three drives then returned one since it seemed like too much too early, especially since obviously storage always gets cheaper with time
@retech@defcon.social yeah, the T-deck has been a really nice introduction device (though more expensive). Basically you can just turn it on and immediately start interacting with the mesh
@retech@defcon.social I have a lilygo T-deck which is like a little blackberry type device (fun but expensive) and a pair of heltec v3 which are teeny devices that are like 25 bucks each and connect through my phone.
For connecting to the mesh, each is about the same. The main difference is that the t-deck is easier to use on the move bc it’s self-contained and doesn’t need to connect to a phone.
