This week I learned the difference between Apple Pay and Google Pay. In the case of the former, everthing is handled by the card provider and Apple does not have any visibility of the transaction. In the case of the latter, quelle surprise(!), Google processes and sees everything. Apple charges a fee, Google doesn't.

Last leg of my current #Interrail pass today, day four of four... Amsterdam to London.
There are queues for security and passport control at the UK terminal. Well-managed, though, and the whole thing is done in about ten minutes.
The departure lounge, half-built the last time I was here, is full. Not oppressively so... some people are standing but with a squeeze everyone would probably have a seat.
For me, Lille is the best Eurostar node on the #CrossChannelRail routes right now with Amsterdam doing well and London and Brussels decent enough these days. Gare du Nord is the outlier, an utter gong show.
Sorry to report the demise of the GWR reservation hack for #Interrail pass users.
"GWR have removed the ability to make seat and bike reservations from their website independently of buying a ticket, after it was discovered that the QR codes it generated could be used as free “golden tickets” – successfully passing through ticket barriers and on-train scanners. The glitch arose after GWR replaced their existing app and purchasing platform. The train company now asks passengers who already have tickets to call them on the phone, or visit a ticket office, if they want to make a seat or bike reservation. Reservations can still be made at the time of purchase. "

@ElenLeFoll reminded of the time in the 90s when I was catching the tube home and the ticket office was closed. I couldn't buy a ticket from the machine as I only had Scottish notes on me and presented myself at the barrier at the other end to pay my fare. They called through to station I said I'd travelled from to confirm my story before they would issue my ticket rather than a penalty fare. Happy days!

#Lumo will be using these on their new service to Stirling which starts later this year and which will bring #DuttyDiesel back to this stretch of the line a few months after Avanti dropped their Voyagers for IETs.
