You are still missing the point, I'm guessing because you're too angry to be smart. Or maybe too interested in being right to get it right.
And that is, I believe, the exact reason progressives don't progress so well.
Gotta have a strategy. Gotta combine (and this is where so, so many fail) bone hard principles with pragmatism.
It's not easy.

What the fuck are you on about? No, you didn't. Or if you did you did it so damn badly it didn't show across the pond. If you had you wouldn't even be in this situation. The right wing fuck have (in their own way, which can't be our way) for decades. And in that regard we have the exact same situation here. I wrote about it back in 2010, possibly even 2005.
Strategy, or lack thereof, is how we got here.

And yes, against overwhelming odds the popular guy may still lose. Of course.
But the unpopular guy is certain to do it.
This is not rocket science.

You'll missing the point.
Think Zelenskij. He gets it. Warm. Humorous. Very serious, of course, and angry. But friendly. Likeable. Principled. Dignified.
Popular.
And in the end the most popular guy/idea usually wins.

The way I see it rethoric is a tool. Tools should be chosen and used according to strategy.
"Taking a strong stance" isn't synonomous with calling people assholes. I'm not saying you shouldn't think they're assholes (obviously they are), but saying it isn't necessarily the best way to win. King, Gandhi, Mandela didn't. And their stances were pretty strong, don't you think?

@scottjenson@social.coop @luxmoore@mastodon.social @codinghorror@infosec.exchange Nah, but seriously, I had the idea many years ago to (have someone) make a 3d desktop/file manager/ whatchammacllit. Should be easier (and more fun) to navigate, after all we’re built for 3d. Instead of folder structures you’d have storage “rooms”, or even memory palace-ish structures.

Precisely. ”Queen”, for example, is a word that has (had) many meanings. ”Queen Kristina” of Sweden –again, an example– wasn’t a queen. She never married, and the word used to signify the spouse of a king. She was crowned a king, though. Which of course changed the meaning of those words, at least in Sweden, but not the same way then as it later did.

I’m no mathematician, but language would be something like the n-body problem. In a sense it can be expressed as numbers, but it can’t be solved.

One would have to define what ”expressed in numbers” and ”described with numbers” mean. Is Pi a number? And if it is, does the symbol express it, or is it an expression for the inability to describe that function as a number?
But the main thing is this: Language has no fixed meaning. A symbol (like a word) is not one thing, but many. And it shifts.
Math doesn’t.

If it took skill, real marketing know how and so forth, to advertise Google wouldn’t make any money. They need it to be simple.
The real question is this:
How are Google (and others) not held legally responsible for the ads they publish?

It is enormously complex, chaotic even. And while every meaning of a word might be described in numbers (or a dictionary), those descriptions are not very exact (and that’s why translation is really hard, because it isn’t just about denotation).

I'm not sure, but I think warmness and humor and joie de vivre is the way forward. Tha art of communication is not to say what you want people to think, but to get them to say it themselves. And honestly, if someone shows up with hope and fairness and such, people will see the difference.
If you want asshats to look bad, give people something to compare them to.

I think this is analogous to touch screens in cars, in a way. Really smart from a tech prespective. Cheap. Efficient. Easy.
It's just that they're bad for humans. We are built for sensory feedback. Buttons that click (there's a reason mechanical keyboards are a thing still), surfaces with different feels etc.
My thinking is that a 3D UI done right would be a better match to how humans actually work.

But I might be wrong. Not everything tanslates well. Only one way to find out.

@aaron@chirp.zadzmo.org if you run this on a sub domain, would the main domain (or whatever it’s called) disappear from search engines too?
Also, it would be great with some kind of one click installation á la Wordpress for us non-tech folks. Is that doable?

Your friendly neighbourhood copywriter has a tip:
You might want to phrase that differently. It's not clear what the percentages stand for. Is it the amount of votes that are missing, the amount of votes cast _ and in that case, why is Slovenia on it? – or something else?
Also, I signed.

Might not be a good idea. Or it might.
2D folder structures are crap. People have a really hard time keeping them structured. Things get lost, misplaced, forgotten.
One of, if not the, most powerful mnemonic device ever is the memory palace. A 3D structure combined with memorable "visuals".
And there could be a gamefication element to it. Seems people are quite good at memorising Minecraft worlds/builds.
