pet peeve: when local organizations, events, businesses etc forget that the internet is worldwide and stuff gets boosted to people all around the world both manually by humans and (on most platforms) algorithmically.

but yes i would love to go to your event on main street.... if i had ANY CONCEPT of what city you were in!?

please please please if you are advertising for an in person thing, include location data with enough detail to disambiguate globally!!

it is so straightforward to include city/province/country SOMEWHERE on your flyer/bio/whatever

so you can distinguish between
London, UK and London, KY, USA.

and George Town, KY (capital of the Cayman Islands) and Georgetown, KY, USA (the sixth most populous city in Kentucky) (i didn't know that KY was the two letter country code for the Cayman islands until pointed out to me by @mirabilos@toot.mirbsd.org , thanks!)

my partner got a flat tire the other day in exactly the right place but at the completely wrong time:

• it was directly in front of the only lesbian bar in the city
• but at 11am on a Saturday morning

if it had happened even a few hours later, they would have been crawling with butches trying to help.

(instead they got me. not quite a butch, not quite a lesbian, not quite good at fixing cars, but we got there)

does anybody know of security cameras that DON'T automatically connect to the internet?

ideally I'd really like a camera or two but i absolutely don't want to provide footage to Amazon or any other corporation.

i just want something that'll stream locally, where i tell it to go and that's it.

... i might just need to get some webcams and single board computers and write my own software and call it a day... but i figured it's worth an ask.
