Is there a commonly-used equivalent in your region? #AskFedi
"he or she"
please, just say they
even if you don't believe nonbinary people exist/deserve respect (which...we do, and we do...), you're making it harder on yourself by pretending that "they," as a pronoun, cannot possibly be used in the singular sense
you do it all the time without even realizing it, and it's been recognized as a singular pronoun before public awareness of nonbinary identities started gaining traction
istg, when people go out of their way to do this, it's the verbal equivalent of "climbing the wall to avoid the gay stairs"

Go to this website and zoom in to the state of Kansas. You can see, for yourself, the coverage of public transit routes in the state.
https://transiteverywhere.com/
Then go here, and pay particular attention to "Kansas Citians Commute Lengths," in relation to public transit. Also noteworthy is "amount of cars Kansas Citians have access to."
https://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article56498968.html
Then go here. Not a single city in Kansas has a walk score at or above %50. Kansas City sits at %32; Wichita at %35. The best transit score is %35...and drops off a cliff from there.
You wanna fuck over a bunch of people overnight? Make it harder for them to hold down employment, secure housing, and pay for basic necessities? Perhaps force them into moving to places with higher costs of living, or forcing them out of car-dependent employment...
...unless they comply with your order to have incorrect identity markers that can easily out them at any time? This is definitely a good way to achieve that.
(IDs and drivers licenses are used for a lot of things, and in combination with the trans bathroom bounty bullshit, you're basically gambling every time you have to show it somewhere)
Again: no grace period. Here's a rundown if you need it.

This is not a post meant to fearmonger. This is about giving cis allies the tools to be more effective with their voices, and to help reach more people in understanding why these laws are as harmful as they are.

Addendum: an example of things you may need to use an ID for, linked below. A whole chunk of it encompasses "the ability to stay housed and fed."

Hey, it's #PrideMonth, and I'm gonna use that opportunity to boost a homeless #trans couple, who are disabled and trying to raise enough money to get a used car, so they have a way to make enough money to secure housing. In the meantime: they need to raise enough to stay sheltered, by June 4th, and have had no progress so far.
(Linked post below)
They've had to cut into their fundraiser multiple times now, in order to remain sheltered. Said fundraiser is also supposed to be for top surgery for one of them.
Figured the least I can do is give this a boost :trans_heart:
@magicalgrrrl@indiepocalypse.social
Can anyone help get this #MutualAid goal met, to keep a #trans couple sheltered for another week? They were only able to raise 12 dollars towards their goal over the past few days, and have previously had to break into savings meant for a car and medical needs.
They can feature a trans character/be about a trans person, a trans actor, or are written/produced/directed by a trans person.
They can also be popularly-theorized to be transgender, such as Gwen Stacy in Into the Spider-Verse. (Note: "popular," here, means "made it into a news article")
They can be in any language, and they can be short films.
I'll take any genre, including historical, musicals/stage plays, and documentary/docudrama (regardless of their quality).
I don't want any PragerU bullshit (using our genuine, real-life stories as Conservative propaganda). Other than that, I'll take any quality of movie/writing/depiction. (So, something like She's The Man or Emelia Perez would be okay under this ruleset, despite them both being, y'know, bad movies)
Off the cuff, we already have:
(We also have the Spider-Verse movies)
(i also have Tron, and have A Clockwork Orange on my to-do list, so Wendy Carlos gets in here too)
My purpose for this is to make use of an external HDD, in order to have a dedicated backup.
Hey #Edmonton #YEG, important ask here:
Anyone have a spare phone they're willing to part ways with? My friend's phone is refusing to turn on, and they rely on it for basic necessities.
Neither of us is able to pay anything for said phone, given our financial situation, and the spare I have laying around is broken (screen shattered, digitizer damaged [screen is basically unusable], random touchscreen activations).
It doesn't have to be fancy, it just has to work. Any help, if you can offer it, would be vastly appreciated ❤️
#AskFedi #Alberta #Canadaneed has been met, thank you ❤️ go help someone else please

does anyone have $40 so we can get some more food, to last til next week?
i was laid off a while ago, my partner is disabled, and i don't get paid EI until next week. i was saving $37 to do so, but i forgot about my phone bill, which autopaid on Monday.
$40 covers breakfast/dinner, as well as her safe drinks :trans_heart:
some men would rather pay way too much for overpriced baby gear because it's beige and has a MOLLE attachment system, than do the work to dispel the notion that taking active care of their baby is somehow an act of emasculation
full Lego Doctor Who game would be so goddamn awesome
I noticed something odd in trans discussions, news pieces, etc. in the UK vs. North America (especially the USA; I've kind of noticed both in Canada):
American trans people, from what I've seen, mostly use "trans woman" and "trans man," exactly like that, but sometimes, those terms are presented without a space ("transwoman," "transman"), and not many people seem to care which one is used.
UK trans people (again, from what I've seen) pretty much exclusively use the space. Not doing so can be seen as slightly offensive.
I wonder why that's the case, that there's a sort of indifference to that in US/CAN, and why it's treated as such in the UK?
Hrtcafe is down, and people are petitioning the FDA for tighter controls on estrogen, that would make it harder to access and maintain than testosterone.
Back up DIY HRT and community science resources, however you see fit.
While you're at it: back up the "Boobs Not Bombs" transdermal E guide, available on Crimethinc (as well as physically, through the Fairy Wings Collective themselves).
This isn't about scaremongering. This is about preparation for worst-case scenarios and current harm mitigation, for those trans people who, for whatever reason, need HRT - particularly estrogen.

so apparently someone's fucking around with Soulseek and sharing music with AI-gen Homer Simpson vocals (but the metadata is still made to look like the legit song)
as of this article's publishing, there's at least 2,000 of these tracks floating around, and you'd have no idea you got one until you actually, you know, listened to it
they're also running a "radio station," 24/7, of this exact nonsense. nice use of our dwindling drinking water, jackasses. cool. awesome.

hey does anyone have $225 so i can buy food for us (and pay my phone bill + my half of internet bill)
Update: 20/225 ❤️ (updated goal, see edit at end)
currently unemployed and my EI application is still under review, and we're running low on food again. i also need to make sure my phone service stays on, in case i get any interview calls
breakdown: $100 for food, $40 for phone, extra $10 to account for Paypal fees
as usual, please help people in more immediate need first ❤️

Edit: Roommate reminded me today of the Internet bill needing paid soon. The original goal was $150 beforehand, and was only accounting for food+phone. They can't afford to pick up the whole bill; my half is $75. This has a deadline of next Thursday, so thankfully there's some wiggle room here.
answer found, thanks everyone ❤️
a challenge / "tip of your tongue" post:
there's two Youtubers i watched back in the day, perhaps 2008-2012. i totally forgot the channel names, and i've never been able to find them since...do these descriptions ring a bell for anyone?
one was a husband-and-wife duo, 30-40 years old, who kinda looked emo? sometimes it was a completely serious sewing tutorial, and other times, it was more comedy-focused, testing DIY hacks they found online. their ad breaks kinda felt like they were offering spots from other online creators?
the other was a blonde white woman (pin-straight hair), perhaps in her 20s? she often tested As Seen On TV products, and i can specifically recall her trying the Curl Secret hair curler. she would often be drinking iced tea or lemonade, and she would take a sip, smack her lips a few times, and in a very exaggerated way, breathe out in a sort of "that was refreshing" noise
idk if anyone can pinpoint those, but it's worth a try to find out! #AskFedi #Youtube
