both of you want to stuff your browsers full of AI/LLM nonsense

squabbling over nitty-gritty details about who is shoving chatgpt in my face "the right way" just shows how insanely tone deaf ALL browser mfqs are in Current Year.

i keep saying it: there ARE no good browsers. ALL of them are just objectively horrible, and the chalenge is picking out the LEAST horrible one.

Firefox infuriates me AT LEAST once a week (the latest update added EVEN MORE context menu entries for links i will NEVER use, cluttering up the UI and adding AI or references to chatbots seems to be someones personal mission at Mozila), but its marginally less horrid than Chrome et al. for now.

my current PC runs a little hot for now & i wanna keep an eye on temps, loads & core voltage, but w/o something way too complex for what i need like Rainmeter.

So I wrote some C++ for the first time in several years and made my own (ish :P)

65KB .exe (+2MB 3rd-party DLLs :P), v low CPU usage and it does what I need :)

It leverages Libre Hardware Monitor's .NET DLL and the C++ wrapper by OpenRGB developer Shady Nawara to read MSRs without having to (myself) deploy a kernel mode driver.

Docker Inc. is introducing strict usage limits for Docker Hub for non-registered users, and a lot of people are weighing options for alternatives/backups.

I had the foresight to hate 99% of modern software development, including but not limited to: horrid bloat, unnecessary build systems, everything being a framework, everything being abstracted into nothing with a million middle-wares, "hybrid app frameworks" like Electron, and - yes - containers. Hence I'm unaffected.

@limebar@mastodon.social self-hosting e-mail in Current Year is also a PitA if you actually need to reliably communicate with e-mail with like a solid 99.99% certainty.

I use Proton, because I've seen enough from them that even though our values don't 100% line up (I really wish they hadn't gone into AI and crypto shit) I trust that I don't have to trust them.
They could be storing unencrypted versions of my files and data, but I'll take that over other companies 100% for sure storing unencrypted data AND analysing it for keywords to sell targeted ads at me.

Hey there, I've been using Soft Serve 0.4.7 for a long while now and love it. Today I tried migrating to post 0.5.x versions (ultiamtely hoping to land in the latest 0.8.x release, obv) but had the devil's own time.

I followed the instructions in the GitHub release notes for 0.5.0 and soft migrate-conf does crunch away copying things for a while, but starting the soft-serve service after, I don't see any of my repositories via TUI (I'm assuming due to access control), and don't have the "users" SSH API command, either (to fix access control issues).

Is there something I'm missing, or any tips you could provide on how to migrate to newer versions without tearing my hair out?

Naïvely I initially tried just upgrading to 0.8.5 but things obviously immediately broke horribly :D So I downgraded back to 0.4.7 and decided I'd take things more gradually but alas, didn't succeed there, either.
