@aks@scalie.zone Amazing! Also, thanks, this lead me to find the maintainer’s _excellent_ writeup on the ethics (or lack there)of LLMs: https://blog.johanneslink.net/2025/11/04/to-gen-or-not-to-gen/

@ludicity@mastodon.sprawl.club "Interesting that he claims all groups of people contain a certain percentage of 'Morons' but then he says he only surrounds himself with brilliant people, which, by definition, makes him the moron." That’s… that’s the goal for anyone who really wants to improve. My biggest disappointments career-wise have been times when I’ve concluded that I’m the most capable person nearby. (This does not mean I’ve concluded correctly, mind you.)

@WiteWulf@cyberplace.social @Savagejen@mastodon.social @bitsavers@oldbytes.space A few years back at my then-workplace of around 25 people, one of our employees did an interview study on ”information capital” as part of some graduate course. The end result was a paper and a flowchart of sorts with your typical knowledge repositories (wikis and whatnot)… and one extra box labeled ”The Solver”, a single individual who acted as a backstop when everything else failed. They even articulated that person’s pattern of getting curious and interjecting with solutions even when not explicitly asked to do so. I was shortly thereafter diagnosed with ADHD. The dots connect themselves here. 😅

``I am sick to death of this — of the tech industry deciding it can do what it wants without consequences. Everything is a subscription, everything is harder to use and enshittified. Everything is built on something that was stolen or degraded. So-called AI – which is not intelligent at all – is being shoved into everything, and makes nothing better (quite the reverse). “Move fast and break things” now extends to the reputations and identities of respected professionals and creative people. And you have the nerve to presume we should all put up with every outrage, with every act of destruction, with every theft. I don’t. I won’t.’’ https://www.moryan.com/an-open-letter-to-grammarly-and-other-plagiarists-thieves-and-slop-merchants/

To everyone at Grammarly, I am writing a book right now, a really challenging endeavor that no doubt someone in Silicon Valley will think it’s fine to steal the day it’s published. I’ve been a professional writer for decades, even though the number of ways to make

@josephcox Last year I got a paid MSDN license at work. I wanted to run Windows in a VM, but the site didn’t give me any product keys. Instead, it just errored out. I contacted support, who told me that they had reviewed my case, and would not be able to grant access. Then they closed the ticket. I opened a new ticket and insisted that it’s unacceptable to have paid for a product and then not receive it. They closed that one _without notifying me_. I never got the license key, so we basically paid the full yearly MSDN cost for nothing in return. Used to be a time when Microsoft still wanted developers on their platforms. Doesn’t seem to be the case any longer.

@mjg59 What does ”democratizing” mean here, if I may ask? My first guess would be an allusion to LLMs, but it’s hard to be sure. The way I usually interpret the word is something akin to ”lowering the barrier to entry”.

@tante@tldr.nettime.org For me, the absolute worst context is a work discussion where someone says this. To me, it communicates ”I don’t know this subject, and now it’s your job to figure out if this tracks with reality.” I’ve made it a personal policy to ignore the contents that follow those words _and_ inform the person speaking of it too.
